Betty Mouton

Betty Lou Mouton, age 87, of rural Carthage, MO passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Thursday, July 27, 2023. Betty was born August 18, 1935 in Quinton, OK, the seventh of eight children born to Claude and Maude Coppenger.

Betty graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1954. It was a rather large school with some 3,000 students. Betty was very popular and was honored to be the band queen of the school and was also honored to be the Queen of the Oklahoma Military Academy in Claremore, OK.
Betty attended Lincoln Bible Institute in Lincoln, IL following High School.








Faith and family were her top priorities. As a preacher’s wife she spent her life in service to others. It was her radiant faith that led her future husband to become a Christian. Betty was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and with a select group of young women, performed on television in Tulsa. She was a member of the Christian Church of Carl Junction.

Betty was married to Boyce Mouton November 27, 1954 in Tulsa, OK. and he survives. Additional survivors include one daughter, Mary Chambers and husband Tim, Carthage, MO, four sons, John Mouton and wife Nancy, Carthage, MO, David Mouton and wife Beverly, Carthage, MO, Steve Mouton and wife Sarah, Charles Town, West VA, and Paul Mouton and wife Jodi, Joplin, MO, one brother Lat Van Coppenger and wife Nancy, Collinsville, OK, 26 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren. 








She was preceded in death by her parents and 6 siblings.

Services will be conducted at 10:00 a,m, Tuesday at the Christian Church of Carl Junction. Private family burial will be at the I.O.O. F Cemetery in Newtonia, Mo. Family visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Monday evening at the Christian Church of Carl Junction. 

Memorial contributions are requested to the Peace on Earth Ministries in care of the Mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, MO.
