Jo Ann Brothers

Jo Ann Scott Brothers, 94, Joplin, died Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Freeman Hospital after an illness.

Born January 13, 1929, in Hannibal, she was the daughter of Joseph K. and Margaret E. (Crim) Scott. She grew up in Hannibal, where she graduated from McCooey High School in 1947. She attended Fontbonne College, St. Louis.

She married Paul E. Brothers on July 10, 1950, in Hannibal. His work with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company led them to live in Carthage, Kirksville, Bowling Green, Hannibal and Camdenton, before they moved to Joplin in 1967.








Mrs. Brothers was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Joplin, where she was involved in many activities. A choir member and leader, she was known for her beautiful soprano voice. She had volunteered at Crosslines, Joplin, and other charitable organizations.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, Robert Scott, and a granddaughter.








Survivors include five sons, Scott Brothers (Kit) Joplin, Rob Brothers (Becky) Lowell, Ark., Bill Brothers (Ruth Ann), Rogers, Ark., John Brothers (Kim), McKinney, Texas, and Tim Brothers (Lesa), Bailey, Col., and a daughter, Paula Douglass (Jeff), Chesterfield; a brother, James Scott (Ginger) Quincy, Ill., nineteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson.

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 28, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Joplin. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary. Private burial will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Webb City. Memorials are being directed to the Joplin Area Catholic Schools c/o the mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri.
