Linda Butterfield

On March 27, 2020, with her four children standing by her side, Linda Butterfield went to Heaven after an illness at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo. She was 72 years old.

Linda Ethel (Brooks) Butterfield was born June 26, 1947 in Seminole, Ok to Rev. E.J. Brooks and Ruby Lenora Brooks.

Linda graduated from Wyandotte High School. At the age of 17, she married the love of her life, Terry Lynn Butterfield, on February 26, 1965.The union of this marriage produced four children, Jason Leonard, Wayne Ervin, Penny Lynn, and Adam Wade.

Linda worked at Glenberry’s in Commerce as a seamstress. She also managed Butterfield’s General Store where she fed nearly all of the kids at WyandotteJunior/Senior High School. She was also an active member of the Wayside Assembly of God church in Wyandotte.








She leaves behind her children, Jason Butterfield and wife Melinda of Bartlesville, Wayne Butterfield and wife Kami of Baxter Springs, Penny Butterfield of Wyandotte, and Adam Butterfield and wife Mary of Ramona. She also leaves behind her younger sister Lenora Burleson and husband Danny. She was the grandmother to 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Linda also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews, and very close friends.
She is proceeded in death by her husband Terry, her parents, a brother, Lloyd Brooks, and a sister-in-law, Vera Faye Brooks.

Lois Cupp

Lois Marie (Ward) Cupp, age 84 of Carl Junction, passed away Monday morning, March 30, 2020 after a short illness in Wichita, KS. Lois was born on December 17, 1935 in Carl Junction, MO, daughter of the late William Sydney Ward and Osie Marie Jones Ward.

She has been a lifelong resident, just recently moving to Wichita, KS in July of 2018 to live with family. She retired in 2007 from LaBarge Electronics after 20 years of service.

Lois has been an active member of the Carl Junction community. She was a lifelong member of the Carl Junction Methodist Church, a member of UMW, and worked many years on the church’s Bingville celebrations. Lois is a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star Faith Chapter #334.








In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Paul William Cupp, whom she married June 29, 1956; sisters Geneva Magoon and Wilma Tucker; and brother, Alan Dean Ward.

She is survived by her children, Stephanie (Mark) Scanlan of O’Fallon, MO, Jeff Cupp of Joplin, MO, Jennifer (Jerry) Hicks of Wichita, KS, and Judy (Brad) Burris of Naples, FL; grandchildren Chris (Amy) Scanlan, David Scanlan, Tim Scanlan, Jordan Hicks and Heather Burris, nieces, great nieces and nephews.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary with a Memorial Service to be held at a later date.

Don Clark

Donald “Don” Eugene Clark, 81, of Grove, OK went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 27th, 2020. Don was born July 23, 1938 in Neck City, MO to Vernon E. and Juanita “Lipe” Clark.

Don graduated from Webb City High School in 1955. He was very proud of the fact that he never missed one day of school in all 12 years, and he made sure his grandkids knew it.

Don met the love of his life, Jacquie Harrison in 1961. They were happily married for 58 years. Shortly after they were married, Don was drafted into the United States Army, serving two years in Germany and six years in the Army Reserves.








Don spent his working years at the Chevrolet dealership in Carthage, MO. Additionally, he co-owned Central Service Center in Carthage with his brother-in-law, Gary Harrison. He also worked for Grove City Hall until he retired in 2005. Don was a member of the Sarcoxie Nazarene Church and served on the church board.

Don had a passion for street rod cars. He spent a lot of his time working on classic collectors and was a member of Vintage Rods of Joplin. Don was adored by many. He had the most humble, humorous spirit and loved to make people laugh. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Don is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Sharon Belk and Shirley Kirk; one daughter, Tammy Frazier; and two nephews.

Don is survived by his wife, Jacquie Clark of the home in Grove; one daughter, Jennifer Fieker and husband Steve of Sarcoxie; two granddaughters, Krissy Benson and husband Mike of Grove and Jessica Fieker of Sarcoxie; one grandson, Danial Fieker of Springfield; two great granddaughters, Alexia Benson and Lana Benson of Grove; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Bonita Harrison, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his beloved cat, “Tiny”.

Graveside memorial visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 6, 2020 at Park Cemetery in Carthage. Services will immediately follow at 10:30 a.m. with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the local Humane Society.

Bill Todhunter

William (Bill) Earnest Todhunter, 92, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2020, following a short stay at Joplin Gardens. He had suffered a stroke on March 21 at his home and was hospitalized until his death. Born April 6, 1927, in Picher, OK, he was the son of the late William Hall and Elizabeth (McGehee) Todhunter.

Raised in rural NE Oklahoma, Bill graduated from Miami High School in 1945. Immediately after, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was trained and assigned to the 6th Cavalry. He served in Germany, where he was part of the horse-mounted monitoring of the southern border of Germany.

In 1947 he married his high school sweetheart, Katheryn Sue (Katie) Jones. Building a life together for nearly 70 years, he lovingly cared for her at home throughout her long struggle with Alzheimer’s, until her passing in 2016.

During his life Bill acquired a wide range of skills as he worked as an apprentice in a dairy, and then later as a meat cutter. In 1952, on the second day they were open for business he began work at Vickers Inc. in Joplin. He had a successful career with the company - first as a machinist, then inspector, and finally salvage repairman, until 1987, when they closed. Anyone who knew Bill could tell he loved working with his hands and always preferred to be outdoors. He delighted in gardening, raising goats and cattle, shelling walnuts, and constructing all sorts of outbuildings. Bill was a whiz at home repairs and created several creative “fixes” to common problems around the house.










Baptized as a young man, Bill held a deep and steady faith throughout his life. As a young family they attended Villa Heights Christian Church, and then later Blendville Christian Church, both in Joplin, until his wife’s illness curtailed their ability to travel.
Bill was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be remembered as a faithful, hard-working, honest, and loyal father, husband, grandfather, co-worker, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by two infant twin daughters, Helen Faye and Ellen Kaye Todhunter; sisters Mildred Dale and Helen Johnston; and brother, Richard Todhunter.

He is survived by two sons, Randall Todhunter and wife, Margaret, of Barling, AR, and Michael Todhunter and wife, Robbin, of Hickory, NC; granddaughter Angela Bramlett and children Victoria, Katianne, and Abigail Bramlett of Van Buren, AR; granddaughter Sarah Rose and children Eleanor, Grayson, and Simon Rose of Hickory, NC; grandson Jacob Todhunter of Barling, AR; and grandson Matthew Todhunter and wife Emily and children Liam, Elijah, and Nathaniel Todhunter of Hickory, NC.

In light of the current COVID-19 guidelines, private services will be held in Joplin on Friday, April 3 followed by interment with military honors in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, Oklahoma. A viewing opportunity with guestbook will be available 9:00 am – 5:00 pm at Parker Mortuary on Thursday, April 2.

Daydee Simpson

Daydreon ”Daydee” Simpson, 62, of Parsons, died at 4:32 P.M., Saturday, March 28, 2020 at her home.

She was born November 5, 1957 at Pryor, OK, a daughter of Robert Leonard and Margaret Mae (Titsworth) Simpson. She was raised in Parsons and grew up here.

Following high school she was employed as a cook at the former Townsman Motel and Restaurant. She later was part owner of “Cronies”, the restaurant in the former Parsonian Hotel. When the hotel closed, she was a cook at the Labette County Medical Center. Most recently she worked at CJ’s Diner for nine years as a cook.

She was Christian. She enjoyed gardening and animals.










Survivors include: two brothers – Gary Stwalley, and his wife, Cathy, Carl Junction, MO, Gordon Simpson, and his wife, Carol, Parsons, KS; two sisters – Peggy Hartman, and her husband, John “Skip”, Scottsdale, AZ, Tamara “Tammy” Simpson, Parsons, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers – Rick Stwalley and Bobby Simpson.

No services are planned at this time. The family will hold a private service at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Proud Animal Lovers Shelter. Carolyn Norman

Carolyn Mae Norman, age 75, of Wheaton, Missouri, passed away at her home on Friday, March 27, 2020. Mrs. Norman, daughter of Albert and Ruby (Henderson) Norman, was born on February 22, 1945, in Caney, Kansas.

Mrs. Norman worked for Tyson Foods in Neosho for twenty-two years and subsequently went on to work at Justin Boots in Cassville for thirteen years until her retirement. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed every moment she could with them. Mrs. Norman's favorite pastime was fishing especially at Grand Lake in Grove Oklahoma. She was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church in Purdy.








Survivors include two sons, Gary Mullins, of Powell, and Jerry Mullins and his wife Barbara, of Jane; one daughter, Becky Garcia, of Anderson; eight grandchildren, Jessica, Amanda, Lindsey, Eli, Jake, Beverly, Cory, and Aaron; two great-grandchildren, River and Koda; one brother, Jerry Norman, of Pea Ridge, Arkansas; one sister, Nancy Rosentretter and her husband Pat, of Wheaton; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Norman.

A private graveside service for family will be held at Chitwood Cemetery in Wheaton at a later date.

Donna Long

Donna Mae Long, age 85, of Joplin, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2020 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin. Mrs. Long, daughter of the late Joe and Audrey (Kirk) Cossey, was born on May 25, 1934 in Duenweg, MO.

She grew up and attended school in Duenweg and worked for Fred’s Frozen Foods until her retirement. 

On January 16, 1950 she was united in marriage to Alfred Ray Long in Benton County, AR. He preceded her in death on February 15, 2010.








Survivors include her son, Paul Wayne Long, of Carthage; two grandsons, Nathan Long, of Carthage, and Nicholas Long, of Diamond; one brother, Joe Cossey, Jr., and his wife, Patsy, of Carthage; and one sister, Frances Morrison, and her husband, Russell, of Joplin. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Alfred Eugene Long; and one sister, Pearl Lavon Kline.

Private family funeral services will be held at Ozark Memorial Park on Friday, April 3, 2020 at 11:00 am. All are invited to watch the livestream of the graveside services on Friday, April 3, 2020 at 11:00 am on the Mason-Woodard Mortuary Facebook page. Judy Jackson

Judith Dale "Judy" Jackson, age 67, Joplin, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2020 at Mercy of Joplin after a sudden illness.

Judy was born July 12, 1952 in Joplin, daughter of the late Robert H. Thomason and Betty Lou Johnston Thomason. She grew up in Joplin, and graduated from Parkwood High School in 1970. She was then a member of the first graduating class from Missouri Southern State College Radiology Program.

 She went to work for St. John's Hospital in the Radiology Department before being asked to switch to work as an application analyst for the hospital. She has worked for Mercy for over 40 years. She was a lifelong member of Empire Baptist Church of Joplin, and a current member of Impact Life Church of Joplin.










In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Goswick.

Survivors include her son, Daniel Jackson and wife Kimberly; daughter, Misha McAnally all of Joplin; 11 grandchildren, Addison McAnally, Kaylah Maynard, Kinzie Jalali, Treyvan Jackson, Lexi McAnally, Michayla Jackson, Arian McAnally, Connor Jackson, Tanner Jackson, Kaiden Sadd, and Kamrin Sadd; great-grandchildren, Millie Jane and London; sister, Jacci McDonald of Joplin; niece, Mindi Watts; nephews, Rob Goswick, and Adam Watts all of Joplin; several extended family members and friends.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Osborne Memorial Cemetery with David DuRall, II officiating.

Retha Wade

Retha Mearlene Wade, a former resident of Neosho for many years, died March 29, 2020 in Branson, MO.

Retha was born September 25, 1930, and married Robert Lee Wade the day after she graduated from high school in May 1949. After a few years, Bob, Retha, and their first son, Jerry, moved to Phoenix, AZ because Jerry had severe asthma. They had their second son, Carl, while in Phoenix. They moved back to Neosho in 1961, and on a 5-acre piece of land outside of Neosho, they build a new home. 

Retha worked as a veterinarian assistant at Simmers Animal Clinic and later at the Neosho Animal Clinic for many years. Bob preceded her in death in 1973. 

In addition, her parents, George Wesley and Mearlene (Mefford) Reding, an infant son, Larry Stephen Wade, and Retha’s younger sister, Imogene, all preceded Retha in death. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Neosho. 

In 2005, Retha moved to a Lakewood Estates villa in Branson, to be closer to family. 








 She is survived by Jerry and his wife, Sandy of Eureka, Missouri; Carl and his wife, Nancy, who live in Branson and own Branson Vacations and Cruises; Retha’s two granddaughters: Amy Michelle and husband, Dr. Antonio Ziherl of San Antonio, TX; and Shelby May and Joshua Fowler of Valencia, CA. Retha is also survived by her brother, Herbert and his wife, Glenna who still live in Neosho. 

After moving to Branson, Retha worked at the Knights Inn hotel and later started volunteering at the Branson Senior Center, only a short distance away. When her eyesight started getting bad, due to a brain tumor that was inoperable, she started driving her scooter, also called her “Cadillac” to the Senior Center. Throughout her life, Retha was always a hard worker and never moved slowly, whether walking or driving her car, and later her scooter.

Due to the COVID-19 virus, a private graveside service was held, and the family will have a memorial service at a later date.

Joyce Mabe

Joyce Mabe, 81, of Jerico Springs, MO, passed away on March 30th after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer while at home, at home, comfortably with her family.

Joyce was born on April 26, 1938, to Ferrell and Beulah Callen, in Kansas City, Missouri.

In 1956, Joyce wed Richard Mabe after he returned from Japan serving in the Korean War. They went on to have two children, Scott and Kim.








After retiring in 2001 from O’Sullivan Industries, Joyce spent her time gardening, sewing, cooking, and mowing her yard. Joyce expressed her love by feeding others, and “Grandma’s Kitchen” was open for all who stopped by.

Joyce is predeceased by her parents, two sisters and her brother. She is survived by sister Beulah (“Fairy”) Ferguson, her children Scott Mabe and Kim Jeffries; and her four grandchildren Bret and Alicia Mabe and Clay and Sarah Jeffries.

John Hickenbottom

Robert Lee (Bob) Hickenbottom passed away March 28, 2020, from complications due to Alzheimer’s and kidney disease. He was 89 years old.

Bob was born to Aubrey and Bernice Hickenbottom at home on December 19, 1930, at their farm in Harrison, Arkansas. He was so small that they had to use a shoebox for his cradle. He attended school in Harrison. Bob worked on the farm and often drove cars for his father, who was a county judge and also owned a car lot. As a freshmen, because of his driving experience and his height, he was allowed to drive the freshmen basketball team to their games all over the conference.

After graduating high school, Bob attended Arkansas State University before marrying Birdie June Bell. Their two children, Janet and Jerry, were born in Harrison. The family later moved to Joplin. Bob and Jerry spent much of their spare time together fishing, hunting, and going on float trips.
Bob worked his way up in the construction business, operating heavy equipment building highways all over Southwest Missouri. Eventually, he moved to Springfield and was promoted to vice president of Masters & Jackson Paving Co. and Bridges & Co. Construction. He often spoke fondly of having widened Hwy 65 to four lanes from Springfield to Ozark.








In 1983, Bob married Jeanette (Jan) Cavender Fox. They traveled all over the entire United States, visiting nearly every national park. They retired to Ozark, Missouri, where Bob enjoyed baking, as well as building furniture, beautiful picture frames, and jewelry boxes out in his shop for the entire extended family. He also kept the whole family supplied with venison.

Jan died in 1998. Bob kept busy going to his grandchildren’s numerous sports and academic activities. He was famous for bringing homemade cinnamon rolls and jerky to all of his granddaughter Arlyn’s volleyball games. His pies and pancakes were also much loved.

Bob was also the person everyone in the family called when they needed help moving or if anything “needed fixing.” He fixed dozens of plumbing and electrical problems over the years, and “drove the trailer” during dozens of moves. Bob also enjoyed going to area coffee shops with his neighbors and friends six days a week for nearly 20 years. He worked hundreds of crossword puzzles and read hundreds of books.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and both his wives. 

He is survived by his older sister, Imogene Stapleton; his son, Jerry (Cyndy), and his daughter, Janet; his step-daughters Carol Wagner (David), Karen Haraldson (Mark Donovan), and Glenna Hinde (Rusty); eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Bob’s funny stories, jokes, friendliness (he had friends all over the country) and unfailing willingness to help will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Lila Money

Lila Lee (Colwell) Money went to be with her Lord and Savior March 30, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family.

Lila was born December 16, 1932, to Harold and Jewel (Barnes) Colwell in Sarcoxie, MO. Lila was a faithful member of the Seneca First Baptist Church for over 60 years. She worked as Secretary to the Seneca Elementary School Principals for 26 years.

On March 24,1951 Lila married Ramon Money at Mt. Vernon, MO, and they enjoyed 68 years together, Ramon survives.








Additional survivors include two sons; Jerry Money of Seneca, MO and Paul Money and his wife Teresa of Nixa, MO; One brother Dave Colwell and wife Mary Ann of Michigan; Two grandchildren and Two Great-grandsons.

The body has been taken for cremation and the family will hold a private Memorial service at the Seneca Cemetery at a later date.

Arrangements are under the personal care of Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca, MO.

Donna Stephens

Donna Joann Stephens, age 78, Greenfield, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2020 at St. Luke’s Nursing Center in Carthage, Missouri.

Donna was born September 21, 1941 in San Bernardino, California to the late Donald O. Boger and Florence Lucille Berry Boger. Donna lived in the Greenfield area most of her life and recently moved to the Lamar area to be close to family.

Donna worked a variety of jobs during her life, but her passion was for the outdoors. She loved to camp, boat and just relax by the lake. Donna also enjoyed planting flowers, gardening, sewing and was particularly talented at cooking and baking. She will be missed by everyone that knew and loved her.










In addition to her parents, Donna was also preceded in death by her three brothers, Leroy Nelson, Norman Boger and Ralph Boger.

Survivors include her children, Gretchen Stolc and husband, Steve, Lamar, Missouri, Butch Taylor, Springfield, Missouri, Margaret Taylor, Lamar, Missouri, Matthew Stephens, Carthage, Missouri; grandchildren, Tiffany George, Kaleb Rook, Gage Stephens, Lexi Stephens, McKenzie Stephens, Jayden Stephens, Ryleigh Stephens, River Stephens, Bobby Raby, Rick Crabtree; great grandchildren, Gunner George, Gabby George, Rory Rook, Kainon Raby; several nieces, nephews, extended family.

Dane Wheeler

Dane Wesley Wheeler, 63, passed away March 22, 2020 in Porter, TX.

Dane Wesley Wheeler was born September 13, 1956 in Modesto, CA the son of Ralph Wesley and Louella (Lancaster) Wheeler. Dane owned and operated a swimming pool installation company.








Survivors include his children; Todd Wheeler, Purcell, MO, Melody Wheeler, Modesto, CA, Collin Dane Wheeler, Joplin, Terica Smith, Porter, TX and Tracy Hayworth, AR.; sisters Charlotte Busby and Connie Nelson both of Houston, TX and his best fiend Rickey Lee Amerson and a host of grandchildren.

Dane was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Kenny Wheeler.

Private burial will be in the Osborn Cemetery.

Deborah Hood

Mrs. Deborah Gail Hood, 62, of Carterville, Missouri, formerly of Sarcoxie, Missouri passed away Thursday, March 26, 2020 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, Missouri.

Deborah entered this life in Monett, Missouri on February 1, 1958 to the union of the late Charles Earnest and Mable (Bristo) Rodgers. For several years she worked as a CNA. After the passing of her husband, Richard Klouse, she later was united in marriage to Wayne Hood on February 18, 2017. She attended Oasis Church of Joplin. She loved her grandchildren and spending time with her family and friends. She will be truly be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Richard Klouse; daughter-in-law, Mary DePreste; siblings, John Rodgers and Mary Orr.

Judy Divine

Judy Kay Divine, age 74, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 26, 2020 after a stroke-related illness.

Judy was born on July 21, 1945, in Joplin, Missouri. Her parents were Bill Gladden and Betty McGhee Gladden.

Judy grew up in Purcell, Missouri, and graduated from Webb City High School in 1963. She attended Joplin Junior College.

Marriage produced the top three priorities in her life, her sons Craig, Scott and Mark. She worked diligently to provide for the boys, securing jobs at Howsmon’s Office Supply, several banks and the Insurance Center in Joplin. Judy attended several churches and enjoyed each denomination. She was a Christian.

Judy married Erran Divine on June 1, 1991. They resided in Webb City, before moving to the country east of town in 1998. She retired, and together they raised cattle and hay crops. Judy loved to work in her yard, and put in a big garden each year. She loved to cook, and was happiest when the whole family met at her home to share a meal, serving her world famous “Nanny burgers.” She was a Mom to many, and her kindness made an impact on multiple people throughout her life. Her door was always open to others beside her own family.








Judy had a great fondness for her grandchildren. She enjoyed completing craft projects with them when they were small, and attended numerous school functions and sporting events to support them.

Family was the most important thing in Judy’s life. Her greatest joy was to have the family all together in her house. Judy’s hugs were infectious. When she hugged you, she did so to share her love. She wanted happiness for everyone.

Judy is survived by her husband Erran Divine of the home, three sons Craig Smith (Ginny), kids Kacie and Taylor, Virginia Beach, Virginia; Scott Smith and son Tyler, Kansas City, MO; Mark Smith (Kamber), kids Tate and Talyn, Webb City, MO; four stepsons, Curtis Divine, Lake of the Ozarks, MO, Phil Divine (Connie), kids Dennisa and Katie, Columbia, MO; Brent Divine (Lori), Joplin, MO, kids Sara and Josh; Eric Divine, Joplin, MO; four great grandchildren, and her mother-in-law Bernice Eden.

Graveside services will be held Monday, March 30, at 1:00 p.m. at Friends Cemetery in Purcell, Missouri. Viewing will take place from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. For those wishing to not attend the public graveside service, a memorial service will be announced at a later date. Services are under the direction of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home in Webb City, Missouri.

Valarie Dianne Hedgecorth, 48, of Webb City, Missouri, departed this life suddenly on Thursday, March 26, 2020 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Valarie entered this life on September 4, 1971, in Carthage, Missouri, born to the union of Micheal and Leesa (Reeder) Hedgecorth. She was raised and attended school in Muskogee, Oklahoma. In 1995, she returned home with her family to Webb City. Valarie was a machinist by trade. She enjoyed fishing, visiting area casinos and spending countless hours with her grandchildren.








Valarie is survived by her four children, Steven Hedgecorth and wife, Devinne, Zane Hedgecorth, Mikeah Hedgecorth and Lauren Fisher all of Webb City; three grandchildren, Makayla, Brady and Paytyn Hedgecorth; her parents, Mike and Leesa Hedgecorth of Webb City; a sister, Glinda Smith and husband, Mike, of Eagle River, Alaska; maternal grandparents, Betty Long of Oronogo and Phillip Reeder of Webb City; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Kimberly Marie Henderson, 18, of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life suddenly on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

Kimberly entered this life on August 4, 2001, in Joplin, Missouri, daughter of Donald Henderson, III and Jennifer Sprouse.

She was in her senior year at Joplin High School and was employed by Casey's General Store and Steak 'n Shake. She enjoyed cars, spending time with her friends, had a great sense of fashion and the most beautiful smile.








She is survived by her parents, Donnie Henderson, III of Joplin and Jennifer Sprouse also of Joplin; her stepmother, Amanda Henderson of Joplin; two sisters, Emily and Kaylee Henderson; two stepsiblings, Bethany and Alex Turner; paternal grandparents, Don Henderson, Jr. and wife, Tonya, of Joplin and April Chew and husband, Chuck, of Joplin; maternal grandfather, Steve Sprouse of Joplin; as well as a host of other family and many friends.

Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Matt Glover officiating. Clovis Haubein

Clovis W. Haubein, 93, of Lockwood (Meinert), MO went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 24, 2020. He died in the same home where he was born, surrounded by his family. Clovis was born May 29, 1926 to George and Laura Haubein in Meinert, MO and was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Meinert, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents and his five siblings; Dorothy, Evelyn, Calvin, Robert and Gladys.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years Eloise Gassner Haubein; two children, David (Tanya) Haubein and Kenneth (Susan) Haubein; three grandchildren, Ann (Brady) Owen, Jonathan (Emily) Pintado and Kimberly Pintado; and five great-grandchildren.

Clovis grew up in Meinert, MO working in the family farm supply business. Upon graduation from Lockwood High School in May 1944 he immediately enlisted in the Army Air Corp Cadet program. He served in the Army Air Corps from June 1944 through December 1945.

After the war, he attended Valparaiso University for two years and returned home in 1948 to help his father, who was in failing health, operate the family business. His father died less than one year later.

Clovis married Eloise Gassner on August 12, 1950. She immediately became active in the family business. In 1951 they added the Massey Harris farm equipment franchise and the business began to grow at a rapid pace. In addition to the farm supply business, they became active grain farmers starting in 1954.

In 1959 Clovis purchased his mother’s interest in the family business. Over the years, the business grew to include 3 bulk fertilizer operations in Lockwood, Pierce City and Jasper, MO.

Sons David and Kenneth joined the family business after graduating from the University of Missouri in 1974 and 1977 respectively. There was continued growth during that period including additional farm equipment franchises and an irrigation equipment franchise. The family also founded Jasper Popcorn Company in 1983 which evolved over the years into Jasper Foods and subsequently Jasper Products.








Clovis was actively involved in leadership positions in many civic and business organizations including: Immanuel Lutheran Church; Concordia Seminary Advisory Board; Dade County Memorial Hospital Board (President); Farmers State Bank Board; North American Equipment Dealers Association (President); Western Farm Equipment Dealers Association (President); Massey-Ferguson Dealer Council; Agrico Fertilizer Dealer Council and the University of Missouri Ag Engineering Advisory Council.

Clovis never met a stranger and always had time to talk to just about anyone at any time. He was a true people person. He led by example and was well respected by all. He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.

Clovis was given a private Christian burial at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Meinert, MO. Due to current restrictions, a Celebration of the Faith and Life of Clovis will be will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2020.

Edwin Cornell

Marion ‘Edwin’ Cornell was born February 22, 1927 in Spring City, Missouri, one of nine children to Earl and Clara (Kleine) Cornell. He entered into rest on March 27, 2020 in Neosho, with his loving wife of 70 years and his family by his side at the age of 93.

Edwin graduated from Seneca High School in 1945 and was a lifelong area resident. He worked at Empire for 40 years as a Meter Tester, retiring in 1989. In addition, he owned and operated Cornell Awning Shop. Edwin loved to fish and hunt with his sons and he loved to work. 

Following his retirement, he and Vera enjoyed many trips and traveling. He was a member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ and was a good Christian man. 

God richly blessed Edwin with his wife of 70 years, Vera Lou (Gensicke) whom he married on June 23, 1949 in Joplin; their two sons, Stephen Earl (Erma Lee) Cornell of Neosho and Danny Edwin (Barbara) Cornell of Columbia; five grandchildren, Ginger Watley, Heather Thomas, Stephanie Talley, Grant Cornell and Justin Cornell; ten grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. 








 In addition, Edwin and Vera have been blessed beyond measure by their church family and many friends. A family graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at 1 pm at the New Salem Cemetery, Danny Boggs will officiate. Jay Farris

Mr. Donald Jay Farris, 88, of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life on Thursday evening, March 26, 2020 while at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri, after a recent decline in health.

Jay entered this life on June 10, 1931, in Joplin, Missouri, son of the late Luther John and Cecil Josephine (Brown) Farris. He was raised in Joplin and was a 1949 graduate of Duenweg High School.

On January 29, 1950, he was united in marriage to Fayenell Goade and to this union three children were born. Jay served his country faithfully in the United States Army during the Korean War, returning home to Joplin after his honorable discharge in 1953. 

At age twenty-nine, Jay answered the call to preach, promising God that if he made it home from Korea he would do so. He served six churches as Pastor, retiring in 2018. He enjoyed crappie fishing, watching baseball and storytelling.








He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gene and his twin Ray; three sisters, Alice VanAmber, Mary Vaughn and Thalia Brock.

Jay is survived by his wife of seventy years, Fayenell Farris of the home; three children, Johnny Farris and wife, Linda, of Carl Junction, Patricia Ochoa and husband, Jesse, of Webb City and Stephen Farris and wife, Bobbi, of Bolivar; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin, Missouri with Rev. Stephen Moser officiating. John Paul (JP) Williams, 79, Neosho, MO entered into rest March 26, 2020. He was born July 22, 1940 in Neosho to Norman and Louise (Michael) Williams.

JP was a graduate of Neosho High School and MSSU. He enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 17, with his mother’s permission. He is also survived by two children, Kimi Tonnette Box and husband, Aaron of Neosho and Timothy Williams and wife, Becky of Anderson, MO; one brother, Harold Williams of Joplin, MO; one sister, Edna Butler of Neosho; five grandchildren, Jessica White and husband, Ben, Michael Whittington, Ethan Williams and wife, Kendra, Kip Box, and Hunter Box; and five great grandchildren, Quentin White, Katlyn White, Isabella White, Draven White, and Sydney Williams. 

JP was preceded in death by one son, Gyton Kipp Williams in 1966 and his parents.

Graveside services, with full military honors, will be 1:00 pm, Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at Oakwood Cemetery, Neosho, MO. Pastor Jarod Proctor will officiate. A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced.

Lyle Wood

Lyle Robert Wood, 83, passed away at his home on March 25, 2020 after a long battle with cancer. He was born March 16, 1937 in Joplin MO, the son of Edward Lyle And Bertalee (Roberts) Wood.

Lyle graduated from Baxter Springs High School where he was quarterback of the football team and captain of the basketball team. He graduated from Pittsburg State University with a degree in Chemistry.

He married his high school sweetheart, Roberta “Bobbie” Livingston in 1959. They celebrated their 60th anniversary in June and were together 68 years.

He worked at Eagle Picher Industries, Farmland Industries and the last several years before retirement he was employed in Defense Contracts for the U.S. Government.










He is survived by his wife, Roberta; sons David Wood and Steve Wood; daughter Catherine Smith and husband Mike all from Baxter Springs; four grandchildren, Tori Parsons (Zach Miller), Peyton Smith and Jackson Smith of Baxter Springs and Matthew Smith and wife Lacie of Carl Junction, MO; and one sister, Linda Goodrich and husband Malcolm of Miami, OK.

Lyle was a devoted family man and always put the needs of his wife and children above his own. One of the things he enjoyed most after retiring was volunteering at the Route 66 visitors center in Baxter Springs where he met people from all over the world. He liked woodworking (especially making bird houses) and working crossword puzzles. He loved watching football and was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan.

He belonged to the First Baptist Church of Baxter Springs. He was a member of the American Chemical Society, the Baxter Springs Historical Society and the Phi Lambda Chi Fraternity in college.

In respect to the current COVID-19 outbreak, no public services are planned at this time. There will be a private family funeral service on Monday, March 30th 2020 at Derfelts Baxter Chapel. Burial will be at Baxter Springs cemetery. Video of the funeral services will be uploaded to our website following the service. Virginia M. Tice, 90, Neosho, MO, passed into eternal rest March 25, 2020 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.

Virginia Mae Chester was born December 29, 1929 in Seneca, MO the daughter of Arthur and Sarah (Sadie Rinehart) Chester. Virginia was a lifelong area resident. She had worked for US Metal until retiring in 1992 and then went to work as a cook for the Westview C6 School District. Virginia loved gardening and her family.

Virginia Mae Chester married Jason Tice in Seneca, MO in 1950 and he preceded her in death in 2002.








Survivors include her children; Rex Tice and wife Carol, Seneca, Charles Tice and wife Shirley, Neosho, Sarah Adams and husband Calvin, Seneca, Rodney Tice, Seneca and Janie Tice, Seneca; brothers, Marvin Chester, Donald Chester, Jerry Chester and Darrell Chester all of Seneca; 8 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and a host of extended family.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 3 brothers, Vernon Rinehart, Kenneth Chester, Max Chester, 1 sister, Elizabeth East, sister-in-law Sue Chester, grandson Justin Roark and great-grandson Brandon Lee.

Judy Brandt

Judith Ann Brandt, 75 of Centerton, Arkansas, passed away Monday evening, March 23, 2020, at her home. She was born on March 9, 1945, in Wichita, Kansas the daughter of Paul Stewart and Lillie Ann Sivey Elliott. She married Larry Kenneth Brandt on June 24, 1978, in Wichita, Kansas, and he survives of the home.

Judy was a member of the Fort Scott High School Class of 1963. She was a Transcriptionist for the Ozark Guidance Center for over 20 years. She loved gardening and restoring dolls to give to underprivileged children.








In addition to her husband, Larry, she is survived by a son, Justin Brandt and wife, Cheryl of Anderson, Missouri; a daughter, Jill Brandt Allen, and husband, Stephen of Castle Rock, Colorado; a brother, Larry Elliott, and wife, Pam of Fort White, Florida; a step-sister, Kathy Voyles of Jefferson City, Missouri, and two granddaughters, Skyler Brandt and Elizabeth Allen. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Jesse Brandt.

Sandi Giseburt

Sandra Sue Giseburt, 70, Carthage, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at her home. Sandra was born September 4, 1949 in Bethany, Missouri to the late Billy Gene Giseburt and Gloria Jean (Wray) Giseburt. She worked as a paraprofessional for the Carthage R-9 School District.

Sandi was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she had many close friends that she considered family. She was also quite passionate about her job, as she truly loved every student and colleague that she worked with and would talk endlessly about the fun times they had together.

Sandi had many other interests, including music, singing, genealogy, her beloved pets, and spending time with her close friends. She was also a lifelong learner and had a deep appreciation for intellectual political discussions. She was generous and kind to all that knew her.








Survivors include two nieces, Amanda Bisig and Jennifer Baker; three nephews, Brian Moss, John Moss, and Ryan Seippel; a stepbrother, Richard Bradford; and many extended family and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her loving parents and two sisters, Beverly Moss and Cheryl Seippel.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Carthage Humane Society in care of Knell Mortuary. Jack Buzzard

Jack Ronald Buzzard, 85, of rural Weir, went to be with the Lord on March 23, 2020 at Medicalodge in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Jack, or “J. R.” as family called him, entered this life on June 29, 1934 at Racine, Missouri to Jack Roosevelt and Leah Frances Crawford Buzzard. He was raised on a farm near Seneca, Missouri and was a 1952 graduate of Seneca High School.

He always had the desire to become teacher and work with children. After receiving his master degree in 1967 from Kansas State College of Pittsburg. Jack’s first teaching job was at Dennis, Kansas. For the next six years, he taught grades 5-8, as well as coaching both boys and girls in the major junior high competitive sports and was principal at Service Valley School in USD504. He then taught one year at Exeter, Missouri. 

In 1975 Jack moved to Longton, Kansas to teach junior high students and was a principal for three years at Elk Valley Grade School USD283. While at Longton, he met his wife, Ella Jean Harrigan and they were married July 16, 1977 at Longton. They then ventured to Seneca, Kansas where Jack was principal of Corning Grade School and sixth grade teacher at Frankfort, Kansas in USD 380, retiring in 1995 after 33 years of teaching. His students affectionately called him “Mr. B.”

In 1997, Jack and Ella decided to return to southeast Kansas to be closer to family and to help take care of her aunt and her mother. They built a home near Weir.

He was a member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon and was a member of the Knights of Columbus there. He enjoyed reading, taking care of the yard, traveling, and attending high school sports events. Jack and Ella had traveled to all the states except for three.










Jack is survived by his wife, nephews, Mark Buzzard, Shawn Harrigan, Jason Thomas and Arron Thomas and niece Shelly Young. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Francis L. Buzzard.

Memorial Mass will be at a later date due to the coronavirus. Private Burial will take place at St. Bridget’s Cemetery in Scammon, KS with Fr. Jeremy Huser as Celebrant. 

In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the Harry Hynes Hospice and/or St. Bridget’s Building Fund.

Peggy North

Mrs. Peggy Lue North of Jay, Oklahoma, daughter of Leslie and Leucille (Rodgers) Pollan was born April 16, 1938 in Grove, Oklahoma. She departed this life on March 17, 2020 at her home, at the age of eighty-one years.

She was united in marriage to Walter North, Jr., February 28, 1959. She was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Southwest City, Missouri. She enjoyed reading and gardening.








She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a sister Mary Jo Seaton.

Peggy is survived by three sisters, Mildred and husband Norman West of Oronogo, Missouri, Linda and husband Larry Dick of Grove, Oklahoma and Bobbie Doublehead of Grove, Oklahoma; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. No formal services are planned.

Bob Lundien

Robert Leroy "Bob" Lundien, 82, of Afton, Tennessee, passed away Friday, March 20, 2020, at Greenville Community Hospital in Greenville, Tennessee.

Bob was born June 10, 1937, in Carl Junction, Missouri, to the union of the late Fred and Versie (Carter) Lundien.







He worked as a stenographer in the court systems. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

A private burial will be held on Monday at Weaver Cemetery in Purcell, Missouri. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home, Webb City, Missouri.

Rose Copher

Rose Marie Copher, 88, made her transition on March 19, 2020 while a patient at Freeman’s Hospital in Joplin. She had a heart condition and suffered complications after a recent fall and a bout with the flu.

Rose was predeceased by her beloved husband Ray Copher by 20 years. While together they owned and operated several businesses in Joplin, including Frosty’s Restaurant &Tavern at 9th and Main for 29 years.

She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Joplin, and participated in many service groups over the years including the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She has worked in hospice care, made lap blankets for people in nursing homes and delivered Meals on Wheels, always helping others in need.

Rose was one of the twelve children of Elza and Nettie Cutsinger and lived her entire life in Joplin except for the two years she spent in Portland, OR after her husband’s death.








 She is survived by one son Patrick Copher of Burlingame, KS and two sisters, Vera Presley of Phoenix, AZ and Verla Ann Willbanks (Jack) of Vancouver, WA. Nine of her eleven siblings have passed on.

She also leaves behind granddaughter Melissa and great granddaughter Katie as well as three other granddaughters: Stacey Thompson and Stephannie Allen of Huntsville, TX and Sherrie Smith of Georgetown, TX. Great grandson Austin lives with his mom Stacey Thompson in Huntsville, TX.

She was the beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews that include: Julia Sparlin (Mark), Ronald Cusick, Tammy Surgi (David), all of Joplin, and Michael Fellwock (Betsy), of Tulsa, OK. Others include Terry Presley of Phoenix, AZ, Barbara Patton Unger (Charlie), Rex Patton, and Linda Patton of Pasadena, CA, Dan Patton of New Egypt, NJ, Wayne Patton, Teresa Patton, Becky MacFarlane and Richard MacFarlane of Oregon and Anthony Willbanks (Sarah), Tim Willbanks, Andrew Willbanks, and Regina Willbanks (Eric) of Washington state. Arizona nephews include Virgil Smith, Raymond Smith and Jimmy Smith. Two other nephews Kerry Presley of Phoenix, AZ and Benny Patton of Portland, OR predeceased her.

At last count, great nieces and nephews number about 25 and 18 great-great nieces and nephews.

Rose is remembered with love and appreciation for being someone who always showed up for family and neighbors, her personality displaying spunk and her character compassion. She was a loving sister, devoted wife, mother and daughter, and a fun aunt who shared adventures. She had a strong faith in God combined with an excellent work ethic which began at age 12 when she worked at a corner café with her sister Verna. Rose enjoyed dancing with her late husband Ray Copher at their Eagles Lodge social gatherings. She also had a passion for gardening and delighted in her spring and summer blooms.

Trish Smith

A beautiful soul, Patricia Ja-nett Smith, 44, of Joplin, MO ran into the arms of Jesus on March 23rd, 2020 after a short battle with cancer.
Trish was born on September 3rd, 1975, in Joplin MO.

She resided in Rockford IL for 20 years where she lovingly took care of patients at Mercy Hospital as a CMT before moving back home to be with her kids.

She left three beautiful children that were the light of her world, Chelsea Kraft, Kanden Jorgensen, and Preston Jorgensen. She also had two grandchildren, Violet Jorgensen and Memphis Kraft.








She was a member of The Sheep Shed church and was Shepherded by Mack Evans most of her life.

Trish is preceded in death by her mother, Betty J Smith, her brothers, Richard Smith, and James Smith, and many more family and friends. She loved Jesus with her whole heart and lived her life to the fullest by serving others. She was the most nurturing, kind hearted giver you ever met.

She touched many people throughout her life and will never be forgotten.

Lorean Wininger

Mrs. Lorean Wininger, 71, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Thursday morning, March 26, 2020, at Galena Nursing Center in Galena, Kansas.

 Graveside services will be held at a later date in Forest Park Cemetery in Joplin, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary in Joplin.
