Lena Thomas

Lena Lorene Thomas of Miami, OK passed from this life Monday, January 30, 2023 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, MO. She was 82.

Lena was born January 15, 1941 in Miami, OK to Johnathan Franklin and Fredia (Stevens) Mullin. She had lived in the Miami area most of her life. 

She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Miami, OK.

Lena married Theodore “Ted” Thomas March 23, 1957 in North Miami, OK. He preceded her in death November 10, 2010.








She was also preceded by 1 son, Jeffery S. Thomas, her parents and 2 brothers, Hugh I. Berryman and Jack Berryman.

Survivors includes 3 sons, Theodore L. Thomas of Sierra Vista, AZ, Michael J. Thomas of Miami, OK and Robert J. Thomas and wife Nadia of Fort Worth, TX, 1 sister, Letha Cole of Seneca, MO, 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Celebration of Life Services will be 4:00 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Miami, OK. Pastor Dwight Moeller will officiate. Vali Montgomery

Valerie M. “Vali” Montgomery, 30, of Parsons, passed away the evening of Monday, January 23, 2023, following a car accident outside of Parsons.

Valerie Michelle Montgomery was born on January 30, 1992, to Timothy J. and Valerie S. (Logan) Montgomery in Coffeyville, Kansas. As a young girl, she moved with her family from Parsons to Cherryvale and then Humboldt, where she attended high school.








In 2010, Vali returned to Parsons. Over the years, she worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aide in nursing homes in Parsons, Neodesha and Chanute.

She attended the Parsons Nazarene Church. A talented artist, Vali enjoyed writing songs and singing. She had a heart for helping others and was a wonderful mother and daughter.

Survivors include:

One son – Maximus Eugene Paine of Independence, Kansas

One daughter – Isna Valie Rose Paine of Independence, Kansas

Her father – Timothy Montgomery Sr. of Humboldt, Kansas

Three brothers – Justin Montgomery of California

Kimberly McGlaughlin of Cherryvale, Kansas

Her infant son, Jaydyn Shane White, also passed away in the accident. Other loved ones who preceded her in death are her grandparents, and one sister, Virginia Rochell Logan.

The funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 2, 2023, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons. The family will receive friends beginning at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, until the beginning of the service.

Marilyn Spidle

Marilyn Spidle, passed peacefully, Saturday, January 28. Born to Raymond and Helen Brock, August 25, 1941, Anthony KS, moving to Joplin MO in 1951, and graduating from Joplin High School, Class of 1959.

Marilyn’s greatest joy was her family. Marilyn is survived by her sons, daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a brother; Jack and Kelley Young, Josh and Vanessa Young, Jordan and Amber Young, Rahlee Young, Chuck and Liza Kieslich, Christopher Kieslich and Fani Boukouvala, Emmanuel Kieslich, Alex and Kelly Kieslich, Gary Dean Sharp, and brother Ralph and Sue Brock. Marilyn attended Harmony Heights Baptist Church, serving others, faithfully each day of her life.








Marilyn is a beautiful person that gave love and overcame adversity, devoting her life to others. Her selfless nature, humility, and heart, shared with her family and friends, are her Legacies and Light that will continue to shine forth.

Marilyn worked for Oxford Home Health Care, retiring after 25 years. Marilyn dedicated her life to caring for the weak, the infirmed, the needy, and the lost. Her smile was infectious, warming hearts and bringing light. Marilyn loved her animals, and her pets. Our Father in heaven embraces his saint, and her imprint on our lives will last forever.






 

Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2023 at Parker Mortuary with Jarel Burnside officiating. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Christopher Kieslich, Joshua Young, Alex Kieslich, Jordan Young, Darrell Brock and David Brock. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6-7:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to Parker Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Joplin Humane Society or to Harmony Heights Baptist Church.

Floyd Burkey

Floyd Burkey, age 75, was born April 23, 1947, to Daisy Benoit Burkey and Kenneth Burkey in Missoula, Montana. He left us to be with Jesus on Friday, January 27, 2023.

His family moved to Sarcoxie, Missouri in his sophomore year of high school. He graduated from Sarcoxie High School in 1965 and entered the Air Force and served from 1966 to 1970. 

 








After serving in the Air Force, he entered the sheet metal trade and was a member of the Sheet Metal Union until he retired in 2012. 

Throughout the years, he enjoyed football, fishing, watching his daughter play fastpitch softball and being a servant of God. He was always known for the vast amount of knowledge he had regarding any football team from any time. He was an avid Kansas City Chief fan from the date they created the team until the day he left to be with Jesus. Floyd was a strong Christian spending many years as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. 








Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Cheryl, his daughter Sandra Burkey Macdonald, his son-in-law Jeff Macdonald, his aunt Irma Lee Wecker, his aunt Adabelle Nance and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held at Faith Baptist Church, 2424 East 20th Street, Joplin, MO on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at the Garber cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Baptist Church.

Joyce McVay

Joyce McVay, 88, Diamond, Missouri, entered into rest on January 27, 2023 in Neosho. Joyce was born October 11, 1934 in Newton County, Missouri, one of seven children to Onal Hobart and Catherine (Carr) Kimbrough. 

She graduated from Diamond High School and worked as an administrative assistant at Vickers in Joplin. She enjoyed RV traveling, fishing, boating and being at the lake. She was a member of the Diamond Christian Church. 








Joyce and Kenneth Dille were married on September 19, 1968 in Carthage, Missouri and he preceded her in death on Aug. 7, 1973. 

 In 1977, she married Wayne McVay and he preceded her in death on October 20, 2020. 

Joyce is survived by her children, Brent Kelley of Granby; Lisa Kelley of Vian, Oklahoma; Mike McVay of Miami, Oklahoma, Curtis McVay and wife, Debra of Bluejacket, Oklahoma and Kim Smith of Vinita, Oklahoma; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. 








She is also preceded in death by her siblings, Glen Kimbrough, Howard Kimbrough, Lavonna Beaver, June Patrick, Dorothy Donoho and her twin sister, Janet Greninger. 

Services will be held on Friday, Feb. 3, 2023 at 10 am at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, Pastor Keith Brumfield will officiate. Interment will follow in the Diamond Cemetery and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:30 to 6:30 at the funeral home. Helen Hawkins

Helen Marie Anderson Hawkins of Joplin passed away peacefully at Joplin Health and Rehab on January 26th at the age of 81. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, and sister.
Helen was born on December 11th, 1941, in Bloomfield, Nebraska, to Harold O. Anderson and Helen Marie Doty. She graduated from Carthage High School and later moved to Joplin.

In 1969, she gave birth to a daughter, Delaine Marie Anderson. In July of 1976, Helen married Richard Hawkins and became stepmother to his son and two daughters.








She held careers in advertising with the Carthage Press and Skaggs Drug Store, in the accessories departments of Newman’s and Heer’s on the mall, and as church secretary of Grace Baptist Church.

Her family and faith were the focus of her life. Her joys included her children, grandchildren, her dogs, Bentley and Lessie, and her genealogy research.

Helen is preceded in death by her fathers, Harold O. Anderson and Roy Jennings, and her mother, Helen M. Doty Anderson Jennings. Helen is also preceded in death by one brother, Bob Anderson, and one stepdaughter, Rita Hawkins Massey.








Helen is survived by her daughter Delaine Hawkins Robinson of Joplin, MO, one stepson, Steve Hawkins of Anderson, MO, and one stepdaughter, Barbara Sue Gould of Joplin, MO. Helen is also survived by one sister, Evelyn McCullough of Webb City, MO, and one brother, Bill Anderson of Carthage, MO. Her surviving grandchildren are Nic Robinson and wife Marina, Jessie Robinson, Kim Smith and husband Larry, Jason Hawkins, Adam Hawkins and wife Roxanne, Jennifer Welch and husband David, Mike Hawkins, Amanda Paulsen, Tim Newman and wife Lori, and Beth Halverson and husband Aric. She had eight great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at Mason-Woodard Mortuary, on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Mount Hope Cemetery chapel in Webb City, Missouri, at 2:00 p.m.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Joplin Humane Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Juanita McDaniel

Juanita Marie McDaniel, age 91, Joplin, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023 at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Juanita was born June 19, 1931 in Joplin, one of eleven children, and grew up living in several locations. She worked for years as a waitress where she met the love of her life, J. Paul McDaniel, and the couple were wed. The couple moved to Joplin where she worked for several years with Chicken Annie’s as a cook. She enjoyed her time with Paul very much, and was very sad when he preceded her in death.






 

In addition to her parents and husband, Juanita was preceded in death by nine of her siblings.

Survivors include her sons, David McDaniel and wife Linda of Joplin, and Robert Helms and wife Myra; grandchildren, Jennifer Richards and Jonathan McDaniel; great-grandchildren, Gage Irwin, Blake Irwin, and Skylar McDaniel; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary with private services to be held at a later date at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

John Danner

John C. Danner Jr, age 79, of Joplin, Missouri passed away Monday January 30, 2023 with family by his side.

He was born February 10, 1943, in Carthage, Missouri to J.C. and Mildred (Short) Wilson.

John worked for Schreiber Cheese as a truck driver. He then worked many great years as a bus driver and in the maintenance department for Joplin R-8 where he eventually retired. 








He found retirement to be too quiet and went back to work as a shuttle bus driver for Downstream Casino and Resort. He enjoyed meeting and interacting with the many people. He graduated from Carthage High School and honorably served in the United States Navy 1964-1968

John always taught his family something new, each time they interacted. He was a wealth of knowledge in mechanics. He was a professional at tinkering. John loved to showcase his skills on the bbq grill cooking for his family and friends.

He enjoyed being in the outdoors hunting and was an avid fisherman. He loved showing his kids, grandkids, family, and friends the tricks of the trade. Family fishing trips to Canada were enjoyed for many years. John loved traveling every summer with his wife, Peggy, to be campground hosts in Salt Lake City, Utah and many other parks throughout the US.








John was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Danner, his mother Mildred Wilson and husband Robert, his father J.C. Danner and wife Melba, brother, Tom Danner, and wife (Linda), his first wife and lifelong friend Marijane Reed, and best friend David Danner.

He is survived by one son, Eric Danner and wife Tara, one daughter, Kimber Shields and Bill Fecke, two grandsons, Brian and Stephan Shields, two sisters, Alice Mohr, Linda Wilson, one brother, Bob Danner and wife Linda, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Angela, RN with Phoenix (Hospice) Home Health Care and LeAnn with Independent Living Center. Both played a very significant role in John’s end of life care.

The gentlemen honoring John’s life serving as pallbearers will be, Brian Shields, Stephen Shields, Sam Goade, Cody Danner, Jeff Danner, J.D. Turner, Robert Fecke and Johnny Dieudonne.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday February 3, 2023, at Mason-Woodard Mortuary with pastor Kyle Beverlin officiating. Burial will follow at Osborne Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:30 – 7:00pm Thursday at the mortuary.

Tommy McCarter

Thomas Randall McCarter, 44, entered into his heavenly home on January 28, 2023 in Webb City, MO. Tommy was born January 23, 1979, in Canton, NC to Randy and Jacque McCarter. His early years were spent living in Haywood County, NC, where he graduated from Pisgah High School in 1997. 

He enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 21. During his tenure in the Army he served as a Multiple Launch Rocket System Crewmember progressing to Section Chief, where he deployed to Iraq from 2003 to 2004 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom One. 








Afterwards he volunteered for recruiting duty and, after 22 years of service, retired as the First Sergeant of the Joplin Army Recruiting Company in Joplin, Missouri. Tommy was incredibly proud of his service and kept in close contact with many of his former soldiers, peers, and superiors providing friendship, mentorship and tough-love as required.

Tommy will be remembered as a good man. He was a selfless, generous, and loving person who used his many talents to enrich and contribute to the lives of those fortunate to know him. He possessed a contagious sense of humor and was dedicated to things he cared for. 

Tommy loved being outside goofing off with his son and the neighborhood kids, chatting with the neighbors and all around enjoying life. When he loved, he loved wholeheartedly. You could always count on him to lend a hand, crack a joke or help where help was needed.








Tommy is preceded in death by his mother Jacque McCarter and his father Randy McCarter. He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Theresa, his son Keagan McCarter, his Daughter Alexis Johnson and husband Krisavion Johnson of Cheyenne, WY; sister Cindy Hall and husband Myron Hall with nephew Colton Brooks of Bakersfield, NC; sister Christy McCarter with Niece Isabella Perkins of Clyde, NC.

A Celebration of Life service honoring Tommy will be held at Simpson Funeral home in Webb City, MO, on February 24, 2023. Visitation will be at 1 pm with the service following at 2 pm.

Betty Lynn Brookshire of Joplin, MO passed from this life Saturday, January 28, 2023. She was 75.

Betty was born February 16, 1947 in Joplin, MO to Howard F. and Agnes (Simmons) Kent. She had lived in Joplin since 2019 moving from Galena, KS where she had lived all her life, this is where she grew-up and never lived anywhere but in the Spring Grove area. She graduated from Galena High School class of 1965. 

She was a Para Professional for Galena Public Schools in Galena, KS, working 17 years and retiring in June 2012. She had also worked for SRS Elderly Care for 11 Years. She was a Democrat Committee Woman, 3rd Ward Galena , a member of the VFW Auxiliary and a member of Spring Grove Church in Galena, KS.








Betty married Lonnie L. Brookshire December 4, 1964 and he preceded her in death on March 7, 2011, they were married 47 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother, Howard L. “Butch” Kent.

Survivors include 1 son, James Brookshire and wife Amber of Baxter Springs, KS, 1 daughter, Lachele Brookshire of Springfield, MO, 2 granddaughters they raised, Ashley Sanchez and husband Chris of Centerton, AR , Sara Severs and husband Robert of Joplin, MO, 6 additional grandchildren, Julie Brookshire, Brittany Strother, Karli Brookshire, Jack Brookshire, Kaden Niday and Kenadie McKeehan and 7 great grandchildren, Tyler Seeber, Aubri Sanchez, Mason Sanchez, Penelope Strother, Jacob Sanchez, Greenlee Sanchez and Harvest Strother.

Bonnie Welch

Bonnie Louise Welch, 91, of Webb City, Missouri, formerly of Purcell, Missouri, departed this life on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at her home.

Bonnie entered this life on October 10, 1931, in Joplin, Missouri, daughter of the late Earl and Eunice (Frisby) Clark. She was raised in Joplin and spent the majority of her adult life in Purcell. 

Bonnie provided domesticated services for area citizens including ironing and cleaning for many years. 









On November 16, 1996, in Duenweg, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Arthur Frank Welch and together they shared twenty years before his passing on April 1, 2017. Bonnie followed the Pentecostal faith throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Evelyn Welpman and Shirley Parker; and four brothers, Jack, Clarence, Junior and Bill Clark.

Bonnie is survived by six nieces and nephews, Crystal Truelove of Duenweg, Kathy Hill of Surprise, Arizona, Jacque Clark of Joplin, Randy Clark of Joplin, Sid Clark of Joplin and Stephen Clark of Seneca, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Irene Carrier of Webb City; a niece-in-law, Treva Gibson of Joplin; as well as a host of other family and friends.








Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2023 at Friends Cemetery in Purcell, Missouri with Pastor Bobby Cooper officiating.

Dorothy Eidson

Dorothy M. Eidson, 86, Carl Junction passed into eternal rest January 26, 2023 at the Solace House of the Ozarks in Joplin, MO after an illness.

Dorothy Marie Marris was born in Neosho, MO, February 4, 1936 the daughter of William A. and Marthel I. (Sanders) Marris.Dorothy was a homemaker is enjoyed being with her family. She loved her cat and going shopping. She was a very private lady. She was a sweet and caring mother and grandmother. Dorothy will be missed greatly by her family.








Dorothy M. Marris married John R. Eidson, September 30, 1954 in Neosho, MO and he preceded her in death August 3, 2021. She was also preceded in death by one son, John William Eidson and one sister RuthAnn Homier.

Survivors include his sons, Homer Eidson, Rapid City, SD, Jerry Eidson, Seneca, MO and Judd Eidson, Joplin, MO; One brother, Jerry Marris and wife Kim, Seneca,MO; 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren.








The body has been taken for cremation under the personal direction of Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca, MO. The family will be hold a Celebration of Life graveside service at the Wyandotte Indian Cemetery, February 5, 2023 at 1 PM with Truman Brady Officiating.

Irene Elmore

Irene Ann Elmore, 90, of Chetopa, passed from this life to her Heavenly home on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Freeman West in Joplin, Missouri.

Irene was born on January 3, 1933, in Ogden, Utah, to Howard and Julia (Keil) Lister. The family moved to Omaha, Nebraska, when Irene was three days old. She grew up in Omaha, attending Washington Grade School and Central High School. For a short time, she took secretarial classes at Omaha University before being employed at the Woodman of the World Insurance Company as a secretary.








On October 8, 1954, Irene married David A. Elmore. They lived in Omaha with their four children before deciding to move to Chetopa in 1966 to buy a restaurant. It was called Dave’s Dairy Dean, and later changed to Dave’s Good Food. Irene helped her husband run the restaurant for many years before they sold the business in 1987 and retired.

Irene enjoyed being a part of the Chetopa community. She was a Girl Scout leader for five years, helped set up a tennis club, was a member of the Arts and Crafts Club and the Chetopa Chamber of Commerce.

She was a very talented artist and musician who enjoyed doing stained glass, watercolor painting and many other crafts. She collected Union Pacific train memorabilia. She played the piano, organ, guitar and accordion and loved to sing, especially hymns and Christmas songs.

In the late 1960’s, she played guitar and sang in a group called the Versatiles with five other ladies from Chetopa. The group played at various events in the surrounding area. Irene was also a former member of the Sweet Adelines – Show Me Harmony Chorus in Joplin, Missouri, and a current member of the Keenagers Chorus in Riverton.

Irene played the organ at the Vinita Christian Science Society in Vinita, Oklahoma, and later became 1st Reader. For many years, Irene was a member of the Keelville Church, where she played the piano. She also played the piano for a few years at Faith Victory Church, where she was currently attending. She loved her church and the people there were very loving and helpful to her.

Her Christian faith was the center of her life. Raised as a Christian Scientist, Irene had a “born again” experience after moving to Chetopa. In 1982, Nancy Whetstone took Irene to a Women’s Aglow meeting where Irene gave her heart to Jesus and was born again. Finding Christ gave Irene joy beyond measure and the assurance in her heart that she was on her way to heaven. She was a member of the Women’s Aglow Fellowship in Parsons for over 20 years, serving as Praise and Worship Leader, Recording Secretary and later President.

During their retirement years, Irene and her husband became members of the Christian Motorcycle Association – CMA. For many years, they rode motorcycles, attending various rallies, and sharing the salvation message along the way.

Irene made many friends in her 90 years. She was always willing to pray with anyone, give a smile, a hug or a word of encouragement, and to help in any way she could. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren very much. She enjoyed being a part of her grandchildren’s lives and attended many music and sporting events to cheer them on. She enjoyed spending time with them, playing outside or doing crafts.

Irene loved to be outside and took on the job of grafting dozens of new trees, cleaning and mowing the family’s pecan groves, which she enjoyed very much.

Kathy Jo Maring, age 60, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023, in Neosho, Mo. She was born May 7, 1963, in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Hubert and Viola (Rockford) Maring. Kathy was a graduate of Washburn High School. 

She loved spending time with her family and her dog Max. 

Kathy will be lovingly remembered by her children Desirae Maring and her husband, Zakk Bonbrake, and Christopher Ellison; granddaughter Lilly Bonbrake; brother, Hubert Maring and wife, Bonnie; sister, Mary Logan. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister Jackie Robbins. Family services are pending at this time.


Patricia Hammonds

Patricia Annis Hammonds, age 74 of Joplin, Missouri passed away Friday, January 27th, 2023, following an illness.

She was born January 29th, 1948, in Torrance, CA to parents, Will Annis and Muriel Lester. Patricia married the love of her life Steve Hammonds, September 26th, 1991, in Miami, OK.








Patricia is survived by her husband Steve Hammond, four daughters, Rachel Snyder, Theresa Mosark, Lisa Seal, and Tracy Redwine, a sister Debra Jean, and her grandchildren, Tyler Goodwin, Felicia Vantrease, Rachel Redwine, Devin Chastain, Candace Helt, and Kirby Helt. She is also survived by her 14 great-grandchildren, who she loved very much. Patricia was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family above all.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31st , 2023, at the Mason-Woodard Chapel.

Kara Harter

Kara Lynn Harter, age 41, of Fayetteville, AR, entered into her heavenly home Saturday, January 28, 2023. Kara was born June 21, 1981, in Springfield, MO, the daughter of John and Linda (Westra) Lauderdale.

She graduated from Monett High School in 1999, and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 2005 from Missouri Southern State University. 









Kara worked at Freeman Health Systems in Joplin, Mo where she was assistant director of CVOR at Freeman Heart Institute until 2019, when she moved to Fayetteville, AR. Kara worked at CVOR at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale, AR, until November of 2022. Kara loved nursing and had a great compassion for her patients and their families. She always had a smile on her face and positive thoughts even on hectic days.

Kara is survived by her three beautiful children; Elliana, Benjamin, and Annalise of the home; her parents, John and Linda Lauderdale both of Monett, MO; and her brother, Eric (Alison Casper) Lauderdale and children Evan, Emerson, Salem and Maisie of Cranberry Township, PA and Maggie Lauderdale of Philadelphia, PA; a former spouse and the father of her children Chris Harter.

Kara was a private person and a very loyal and devoted friend. She was selfless and delighted in bringing joy to others. Kara loved her children dearly and was so proud of them. She encouraged them to set high goals and not to fear rejection. 







Kara loved to travel and especially enjoyed family vacations in Colorado and Florida, and trips with friends to Oregon and California. She found much tranquility hiking in the mountains or soaking up sunshine on warm, sandy beaches. Kara also loved her dog, Raven, a protective English Mastiff.

Kara had a great faith and trust in God, which sustained her in her cancer battle. She had a passion for the homeless and those with food insecurities. She donated food frequently to the Little Free Pantry, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church near her home.

Kara wished to be cremated and a private memorial service is being planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Circle of Life Hospice, Springdale, AR or Watered Gardens Ministries of Joplin, MO.

Rosalee Potter

Rosalee Potter, age 89, of Lamar, MO entered her heavenly home January 27, 2023, at Truman Health Care. Rosalee was born February 5, 1933, to Clarence “Dutch” Alexander and Mattie Mae (Stone) Gordon in Avola, MO. She was the sixth of seven children. She grew up on her parents’ farm, and after her father passed away, she helped her mother with housework and caring for the chickens. 

She attended Avola Country School for eight years and then four years at Sheldon High School, graduating in1951. She met and married Rollin Leroy Potter on February 12, 1950.








She was a dedicated servant of the Lord. She was faithful in her attendance at classes and church. She taught the children’s class, hosted visiting missionaries, and in later years taught the adult Bible class. Rosalee kept busy with many activities. 

She taught swimming lessons and Weight Watchers, played bridge and other card games, and enjoyed playing train with dominoes. She was a talented decorator and enjoyed decorating her home. She decorated her home inside and out for Christmas and would have several fully decorated trees. Her skill showed and was obvious by the numerous awards she received for her decorations. She was an excellent cook. 

In later years, when she was not able to stand for long periods of time, she would sit in her chair and give instructions, even when with very capable cooks. She loved entertaining in her home and hosted Christmas parties and family gatherings, where she would prepare a big spread for the visitors. Everyone who entered her home felt special.








She and Rollin were lifelong members of Chat-N-Chew, a group of friends who met monthly, went out to eat, and then returned to a member’s home to chat a while. The group also had yearly camping trips and Christmas parties. She loved being outside, reading a book, watching people go by, and visiting with those who would stop for a while. 

Rosalee was the office manager for Potter Plumbing and Heating. She managed the sales room, selling TVs, stereos, washers, dryers, refrigerators, and dishwashers. She retired in 2000 and babysat her grandson. She often spoke of her co-workers, Gail Day, Judy and Lister Potter, and Carl Phipps. She loved the girls in the bridge club, including Norma Harris, Joan Jones, Joyce Gage, Sondra Reigal, Betty Gideon, and Betty Gilkey, to name a few. She was also fond of Ed and Mary Belle Rice, Phil and Susie King, Pat Hauser, Carolyn Gordon, Bonnie Graham and Jean Hauser. 

Rosalee loved football. She attended the games of the Lamar Tigers until she was unable to due to a fall in which she broke her arm and hip. She then continued to follow them on YouTube and the radio. She attended all the playoffs and state championship games. She also loved watching the Chiefs.

She is survived by her sons, Brad and wife Lorraine Potter, and Mitch and wife Carissa Potter of Lamar, MO; six grandchildren, Amy (Scot) Losh, Kiley (Ray) Triscik, John Candler, Chance, Kiersten, and Kinsley Potter; three great-grandchildren Jordan and Ryker Losh and Marley Newell, and sister-in-law Carolyn Gordon as well as numerous nieces and nephews.








Rosalee was preceded in death by her parents, husband Rollin, infant son, Rollin Kemp Potter; four brothers, Willis Gordon, Glenn Gordon, Paul Nelson Gordon, and Jack Gordon; two sisters Edna Mae Rice and Dulcie Rice; and grandson Derek Candler.

If you would like to make a memorial contribution in lieu of flowers, the family suggests The Gideon Bible Society or Lamar United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.

Keith Patterson

Keith Patterson, age 48 of Joplin, Missouri passed away Saturday, January 21st, 2023 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, KS.

He was born July 22, 1974, in El Paso, TX to Jerry and Billie (King) Patterson. Keith worked as a truck driver for over two decades. Keith is survived by three children, Rachel Patterson, David Patterson, and Jonathan Patterson; two brothers, Kevin (Lisa) Patterson and Kenneth Patterson; his parents, Billie and Jerry Patterson; several nieces and nephews; and three great nieces.








Keith graduated from Joplin High School in 1992 and from Missouri Southern State University with a B.A. in Computer Science in 2004. He got his Associates in 2003 from the same school, and was a part of the first graduating class after the school changed from College to University. He made a big deal out of this. Keith loved working with computers and enjoyed converting family memories from film to digital media. He was also a big fan of philosophy, and loved to talk about his views on religion, politics, and how to treat others. He had two rules: 1. Enjoy life, and 2. Help others to do the same. He did everything in his power to help others do the same. His kids will always remember his patience, silly songs, and extraordinary whistling skills.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.

Betty Crews

Betty Jane Crews was born on January 25, 1935, in Blue Cane, Arkansas, to Herbert and Ola (Collier) Seay. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 29, 2023, at the age of 88. Betty graduated from Rector High School in 1952, Southern Baptist College in 1954, Arkansas State University in 1960, and attended the University of Michigan. 

She taught elementary school for 30 years, and this allowed her husband, Ray, to attend Seminary and pastor small churches in the early years of marriage. Betty was born again and baptized at Friendship Baptist Church near Kennett, Missouri. Her heart was in loving and teaching pastor's wives. She taught in the States, Ghana and Liberia. She enjoyed three months of living in the Sinai desert in Israel, lecturing Jewish ladies about the Tabernacle. She really loved when they served as chaplains on cruise ships in the Caribbean! 








Betty was an encourager, teacher, choir member, and faithful servant and supported her husband Ray in his pastoral ministry for over sixty-six years. 

On September 6, 1953, in Piggott, Arkansas, Betty and Ray Crews were united in marriage and shared sixty-nine years together. 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Carol Ann Steed and husband, Roy of Fayetteville, Arkansas; John Mark Crews and wife, Jo of Benton, Arkansas and Jane Ellen Massey and husband, Gary of Neosho; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

June Bridges

Edith June McClinton Bridges went to be with her Savior on January 29, 2023. She was born on June 23, 1931, to J. D. and Henrietta McClinton in Lees Summit, MO.

June fell in love with her high school sweetheart, Charley Bridges, and they were married at her parent's home on August 20, 1948. They started their life together on a farm northeast of Diamond, where she and Charley lovingly raised their three sons. She continued with the farming, serving as secretary for Bridges Farms, Inc. 








June was an active member of the Diamond United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school and Bible school. She was also involved in 4-H, serving as a club leader for several years, and was an officer in the Diamond PTA and served on the Diamond School Board of Education. June enjoyed singing and was a member of the vocal group, Sisters in Song. She also enjoyed painting and playing cards with family and friends. Together, she and Charley spent time traveling with 'The RV Bunch' for several years, going to warmer areas during the Missouri winters.

In addition to her husband, Charley, of seventy-four years, she is survived by her sons, Harold and his wife, Tiny of Diamond, Lee of Granby, and Glen, and his wife, Penny of Sarcoxie; several grandchildren; great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at 1 pm at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, with interment to follow in the Diamond Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 7 pm at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho. Larry Carter

Larry Carter passed away January 28, 2023, at his home, after a long illness.

Larry was born July 15, 1943, at Stella, MO, to Gene and Leona Carter. He graduated from Fairview High School in 1961. He attended Oklahoma Military Academy, Claremore, OK, on an athletic scholarship, completing his undergraduate degree and Masters degree at SMS (now Missouri State University).

Larry was united in marriage June 20, 1981, to Linda Roller Oldham and they shared 41 years of love and life together.








Larry was preceded in death by his father, Gene Carter, and his mother, Leona Carter.

Larry is survived by his wife, Linda, sons David (Andrea), Doug (Cindi), Darin (Michelle) and daughter Sarah Woolery (Jason), grandchildren Alivia Sutton (Brinnon) and Hunter Carter (Tara), Caitlin and Bella Carter, Callie and Jesse Carter, Lydia and Luke Nevels, Vadim and Levi Woolery, Brady (Latisha) Reynolds, great granddaughter Brynlee Reynolds, sister and best friend Karolen Bischoff, and extended family of nieces and great nephews.

Larry grew up on the family farm near Fairview, MO. He enjoyed the outdoors and especially mowing the fields with the brush hog. After retirement from Republic Schools, he worked for many years with his own brush hog business.

Larry was an athlete and excelled at baseball and basketball and he was chosen for the All Ozark Basketball team.

Larry started his career at Republic High School as coach and teacher. He later became Principal at Republic Middle School. He felt very fortunate to spend his entire professional career in the Republic School System where he made lifelong friends.

Larry cherished his family and was a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was a treasured friend of many. Everywhere he went, he would see people he knew and would stop to visit. He was the best kind of friend. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed his hobbies of playing dominoes and pinochle, hunting, watching Kansas basketball …….and do-nuts. He had a deep Christian faith which supported and sustained him throughout his life. He started every morning by reading his Bible and the Upper Room devotional.








Visitation from 10 am to 11 am Saturday February 4, 2023 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 922 W. Republic Road in Springfield (coffee, juice and do-nuts, in honor of Larry, will be served). Service and Celebration of Life will begin at 11 am Saturday in the church. Burial will follow in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Monett, Missouri under the care and direction of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home.

Mary Finney

Mary Anna Finney, age 80, of Neosho, Missouri, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 11:27 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2023. She was born August 30, 1942, to Clifford and Emmaline (Cargile) Stephens in Stella, Missouri, one of ten children. 

Mary was united in marriage to Bob Green on April 15, 1966. He preceded her in death in February 1984. Together they had two sons, Clifford and Jeffrey Green. November 1, 1997, she married Charles Finney in Neosho, and through this marriage, she gained three children, Chari, Cal and Lisa.








Mary was a 1960 graduate of Pineville High School and attended Crowder College for accounting. She worked for Hudson Foods, Living Word, Teen Challenge, and Crosslines Ministries in Neosho. Mary was an active member of the New Life Fellowship and dedicated her time to the church and Crosslines food ministries. She was a talented seamstress and loved blessing others with her beautiful hand-made quilts. Mary loved the Lord and her beloved family.

She is survived by her husband, Charles “Charley” Finney of Neosho; two sons, Clifford (Dawn) Green of Mayfield, Kentucky, and Jeffrey (Tonya) Green of Birmingham, Alabama; her three bonus children, Chari Wheeler of Pea Ridge, Arkansas, Calvin (Tammy) Finney of Bolivar, and Lisa Finney of Osceola, Missouri; three brothers, Leroy, Joe and Robert Stephens; one sister, Irene Williams; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.








In addition to her former husband, her brothers, Junior, Paul, Bob and Larry Stephens, and sister, Maxine Luellen, two grandsons, Zane and Joseph, and one great-granddaughter, Reme James, also preceded her in death.

Don Wyzik

Donald “Don” Francis Wyzik, age 77, of Carl Junction, passed away on Wednesday, January 25th, 2023 at his home.

Don was born June 21st, 1945 in Springfield, Massachusetts to the late union of Emmanuel and Sophie (Opatkiewicz) Wyzik. He was born and raised in Massachusetts, then moved to Greenfield, MO, in 1977 to start his career at Empire District Electric. In 1988, he moved to Carl Junction. 








He served in Massachusetts in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam War for 6 years as a Staff Sergeant. Later on, he retired as a Master Sergeant in the Air Force Reserve. Don loved golfing, fishing, traveling, and being a judge at the Kansas City BBQ Society events. He also enjoyed referring High School Football games. Don worked for about a year in Massachusetts at Smith and Wesson and the Milton Bradley Company.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Ann Wyzik-Baptista.








Don is survived by his two children, Bethany Roberts and husband, Danny and Craig Wyzik and wife, Kristi; four grandchildren, Cameron Shember, Haley Moore and husband, Zane, Simon Wyzik, and Seth Wyzik; and two siblings, Gloria Packard and husband, Albert, of Springfield, MA and Michael Wyzik and wife, Veronica, of Westfield, MA.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

Cremation arrangements are under the care of Parker Mortuary.

Eunice Sutherland

Eunice Ann (Fox) Sutherland, age 89, departed this life January 25th, 2023, at the Lake Stockton Healthcare facility where she had been a resident for the past two years.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 3rd, at the Greenfield Funeral Chapel. Visitation 10:00-11:00 a.m. with service to follow. Interment will be at Greenfield Cemetery.

Eunice was born July 7, 1933 to parents Ray and Sabra (Kirby) Smith. She spent most of her life living on the family farm near Greenfield, MO, until she later moved to Springfield, MO. 








She worked many years at Zenith Electronics and commuted with several folks from Greenfield while living there. Many friendships were made on those early morning and afternoon drives to and from work. Eunice always demonstrated a strong work ethic and was a great example for her children and grandchildren. After work, she spent many hours at ballfields over the years watching her boys and grandkids play sports. She was always quick to encourage and support them. Eunice was an impressive bowler and able to throw a strike into her later years. She also enjoyed playing cards, sewing and crocheting items for her family.

Eunice’s greatest role in life was that of a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a wonderful “from scratch” cook and had no greater joy than preparing large meals and favorite foods for her family, making sure no one ever left her house hungry. Her selfless nature was ever-present, always putting others before herself.

Eunice always made time for her family and was known to stay on the phone as long as any of her kids or grandkids wanted to talk. We will deeply miss her and those conversations.








Eunice was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Sabra Smith; her brother and sisters: Leon Smith, Ruby Cantrel, Allidene Fletcher and Elnora Lane.

Eunice is survived by her sons, Kyle Fox of Texas, Joe D. Fox and wife Patsy of South Greenfield, Mike Fox and wife Mary Lee of Leawood, KS; brother-in-law Glenn Fox of Gravois Mills, MO; Grandchildren: Christie Seabolt, Kylee Ghering, Jesica Griggs, Lacey Fox, Taylor Fox and Tanner Fox; Great-Grandchildren: Kody Seabolt, Kaitlen Carroll, Zaide and Javin Rice, Myka Griggs, Nash and Hudson McGuire, McKrae Daniel, Kaylee, Jaylynn and Alayna; Great-greats: Karlie and Kasen Carroll, nieces, nephews and other family; special friends: caregiver, Monica, at Lake Stockton HCF, and Frankie Turner, who spent many hours visiting Eunice.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Lake Stockton Healthcare Facility for the wonderful care they gave Eunice during her time there.

Jean Reed

Nona Jean Reed, 92, went to be with the Lord on January 19, 2023.
She was born to Henry & Eula Hess on December 5, 1930, in Lamar, MO, where she grew up as an only child. She was close with her parents and grandparents. 

Jean was a good student in school and enjoyed learning. She graduated as salutatorian of her class. Jean wrote many poems and stories, even having some published throughout her lifetime.









She married Joseph Reed on August 23, 1951. They lived in Kansas City for a couple of years before moving back to a farm in Iantha, MO, where they raised their four children.

Jean spent her lifetime as a homemaker and was a hard worker on the farm. Jean and Joe then moved to Frontenac, KS in 1974. Jean always had pretty flowers in the yard and raised a big garden with lots of produce. She was always there for her family. She was known as "Nana" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.








Jean is survived by two daughters, Rebecca West of Webb City, MO, and Shirley Giacometti (Craig) of Frontenac, KS; and daughter-in-law, Cathy Reed. She had five grandchildren, Matthew Ratterree (Sherrie), Pamela Marshall, Lacey Duffm (Clayton), Gretchen Smith, and Kylee Feagan (Bryan). She had many great-grandchildren, Ashley, Hannah & Jordan Ratterree, Braxton Duffin, Abbey & Nathan West, Brandon Harper, Lily & Annabelle Feagan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; sons John and Grant Reed; and great-granddaughter Kendra Harper.

A graveside service will be held for her family at a later date.

Jean Harper

Alma “Jean” Harper, 95, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023. Jean was born on July 29, 1927, in Kendricktown, Missouri, to Ray and Florida Erwin. She was a long-time resident of Carthage and graduated with the Carthage High School Class of 1945. 

Jean worked at the Bank of Carthage for 30 years before working for and retiring from Carthage Hardware. 








She was baptized at the age of 11 at the Kendricktown Methodist Church where she attended for many years. She enjoyed spending time at the Carthage Can-Do Center and spending time with her family.
Jean was united in marriage to Lloyd Harper on June 2, 1961, at the Methodist Church by Reverend Glen Trowbridge; Lloyd preceded her in death on December 26, 2000.

She is survived by one daughter, Amy L. Eddins (Kenneth) of Carthage; three grandchildren, Levi Eddins (Virginia), Amanda Eddins, and Karla Kleveno; 6 great-grandchildren, Aiden Eddins, Sofia Eddins, Korbin Eddins, Hillary Patrick (Matt), Heather Anderson (Ethan), and Haley Longstaff; and five great-great grandchildren, Ashten Adams, Austin Adams, and Alex Adams, Cooper Patrick, and Harper Patrick.








She is preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Judith Wright.

A funeral service is scheduled for Jean at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage, Missouri. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday evening, January 30, 2023, at Ulmer Funeral Home. The burial will follow immediately after the service at Fasken Cemetery in Carthage, Missouri.
