Robert Lehman

(From Parker Mortuary)

Robert E. Lehman, 85, Carl Junction, MO, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024 while under the care of an emergency room at a local Joplin hospital.

Known as Bob, Mr. Lehman made his home in Joplin for over five decades, having been born December 7, 1938 in Fairbury, NE. He was the firstborn son of the late Dana and Hazel Lehman.

Bob grew up on a large successful dairy farm in Iowa and later moved to the Lake of the Ozarks area where his family owned and operated a business.

Bob graduated from Camdenton High School and moved to KC where he graduated from Cosmetology School. He subsequently moved to put in his own salon in Tipton, MO. While living in Tipton, he met the love of his life, Barbara, and they married in the early 1960s, together raising three children, Mark, Marcia and Linda.

Bob was an insurance agent for American National and upon retirement, went to work as a Funeral Attendant for Parker Mortuary for the last fifteen plus years before fully retiring. His love of helping others was a well-known trait. Compassion and caring for others was a part of Bob's everyday life in all aspects of life. He truly loved people! He loved his time helping people whether working through insurance issues or helping individuals/families in their time of loss.

Bob had a servant's heart and was often asked if he was a pastor. Although he did not serve as a pastor, Mr. Lehman was a strong Christian who faithfully served the Lord in various capacities in local Southern Baptist churches, Upward Bound, and Gideons International. Emmanuel Baptist Church, Webb City was Bob's church home. The word that best described Bob was FAITHFUL; faithful to his Lord, family, friends, workplace and church, and prayed daily that his grandchildren would grow in their desire to faithfully serve the Lord.

Trout fishing in various locations across Missouri was one of the many pleasures Bob enjoyed. He also loved Southern Gospel and classical music. Bob became a Webb City Cardinal football fan, becoming a Friday Night regular at the Cardinals' stadium long after his grandson graduated. Attending his local grandson’s Jazz Band, Marching Band, and piano recitals gave Bob immense joy. Were he able to attend his Texas grandkids activities, he would have gladly done so! A fierce love for his kids and grands was evident as Bob often included them in conversations with others.

Bob never missed an opportunity to invite someone, even a newly made acquaintance, to church. He never met a stranger and was very well known in Jasper County. His Christian influence and jovial spirit will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara in 2008 and his daughter, Linda in 1979.

Robert is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lynna (Eckert) Rathmann. His four children, Amber Hudson and husband, Dustin of Stotts City, Chance Rathmann and wife, Alisha of Mount Vernon, Heather Campbell and husband, Casey of Mount Vernon, Ethan Rathmann, and wife, Krista of Mount Vernon. Robert’s greatest blessings in life were his wife, kids and grandkids. He also counted it as an honor to step in and be a Dad to his son-in-law’s and daughter-in-law’s that lost theirs.

He would always jump at the chance to lend a hand where needed, if you called and needed help, he was on the way or finding a way to get you what you needed, especially if you needed something off Facebook marketplace; he liked finding those good deals.

All through his life he worked hard and played hard. He loved his hobbies whether that be Tractor Pulling in his Allis-Chalmers, Team Penning on Socks, Trail Riding on Jack a Dandy while camping with friends or watching the Chuck Wagon races at the OF Ranch in Clinton, Arkansas. He loved his Ford trucks in the driveway and his Peterbilt’s at work.

Robert was just a good ol’ cowboy. He will be leaving a giant void in the lives of his loved ones left on this side of Heaven. He loved his family and friends fiercely, but the favorite title he held was Papa. That was a common topic at family get togethers as to how much of a softy he became after he was promoted to Papa.

Thank you, Cowboy, for the laughs, life lessons, precious memories, but most of all for loving us.

Rachel Stephens

(From Clark Funeral Home)

The epitome of kindness, gentleness, and humility, Rachel Lea Stephens was a loving servant of Jesus and a beacon of light to her family, friends, church family, and community. She passed away on March 26, 2024, at the age of 85.

Rachel was born on July 22, 1938, to Robert and Myrle (Alfrey) Elswick in Lanagan, MO. She was a 1956 graduate of Pineville High School. In addition to raising her three daughters, who were her greatest joys, Rachel also worked as a caregiver for children and the elderly and as a housekeeper in homes and nursing facilities. Her dedication to serving others was a quality that touched every person she encountered.

As an active member of Northside Baptist Church, Rachel was still teaching Sunday school and meeting with a group of women prayer warriors every Saturday morning. She enjoyed her apartment’s social events, including monthly dinners, movie nights, Bible studies, and puzzle collaborations. An exceptional seamstress and baker, she would often be found in the kitchen making mouthwatering cookies and pies or mixing up homemade jellies. Picnics in the park and leisurely walks at the fish hatchery were two of her favorite pastimes.

Rachel cherished her family and friends, which was evident through personal visits, phone calls, and frequent letters. She was a loving and caring mother to her children: Mona Anders and husband, Bill, of Anderson, MO, Dianne Renkoski and husband, Luke, of Everton, MO, and Theresa Schneider and husband, Keith, of Neosho, MO; a nurturing Grandma and Meme to her eleven grandchildren: Samantha Williams and husband, Brian, Shelby Larkin and husband, Ryan, Rachel Schneider, Allison Renkoski, Kolby Schneider, Jared Renkoski, Karlee Rodgers and husband, Jackson, and Isaac Renkoski; a proud great grandmother of two great-grandchildren; Cooper Larkin and Tessa Larkin; and a devoted sister to her brother, James Elswick — who all loved her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
