Elaine Oertle

(From Midland Cremation Society)

Grace “Elaine” (Hills) Oertle, 88, of Jasper MO, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, at Joplin Gardens Nursing Home in Joplin, MO.

Elaine was born June 14, 1937, to Wiley and Grace (Parscale) Hills. She graduated from Deepwater High School in 1955. Elaine was united in marriage to her late husband, Jerry Oertle, on April 21, 1958. They were married for 66 years before his passing. They shared many memories over the years, had many great friends, and created a loving family. Elaine doted over her children and grandchildren, but nothing quite compared to her love for her great-grandchildren.

Elaine is survived by two children, Paula (Terry) Redman of Jasper, MO, and Bob (the late Melissa) Oertle of Lamar, MO. Four grandchildren, Lonni Boman of Jasper, MO, Jarin (April) Redman of Pittsburg, KS, Justin Oertle of Columbus, KS, and Lynsi Oertle of Lamar, MO. Three great-grandchildren, Heston (Chala) Boman and Hayes Boman, both of Jasper, MO, and Laine Redman of Pittsburg, KS. Elaine is also survived by one sister-in-law, Wanda (Joe) Porter of Pittsburg, KS, along with many nieces and nephews and their families.

Elaine was preceded in death by many family members who were, no doubt, anxiously awaiting her arrival at the Pearly Gates. We can only envision her walking through the gates singing ‘I’ll Fly Away’ or ‘Amazing Grace’ as she loved old hymns. Her daughter-in-law, Melissa and husband Jerry, were likely the first in line, hand-in-hand, welcoming her with open arms.

Elaine was the youngest of eight children, who all passed before her: Fred Hills, Ransom Hills, Goldie Wood, Mabel Hooper, Annabelle Foster, Tom Hills, Margaret Hart, and her stillborn twin, June Hills.

In the 70s you could find Elaine in the stands cheering (we are certain she was probably the loudest) for the Jasper Eagles football team or spending her weekends at Grand Lake with her family. In the 80s and 90s you could find her every Sunday cooking family dinner. Like most grandmas, no one else’s food compared. In the early 2000s, her first great grandbaby was born and she spent the rest of her days adoring and loving her “babies”. Family was her pride and joy and she would brag on them every chance she got.

Elaine drove a school bus for Jasper Schools when her kids were young, worked at the local convenience store when they were in high school and eventually found her way to O’Sullivan Industries where she worked in housekeeping and loved being able to keep up with all the latest local gossip.

Elaine will be missed by many. The family has chosen to honor her wishes of no funeral/service, however, there will be a Celebration of Life Luncheon on November 15th at 1pm at Palluccas Event Hall located at 207 East McKay Street, Frontenac, KS 66763.

Dennis Jenkins

(From Daniel Funeral Home)

Dennis Lynn Jenkins, age 69, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Good Shepherd Community Care in Lockwood, Missouri.

Dennis was born September 1, 1956, in Lamar, Missouri, to Sherman Chester Jenkins and Poncie Oletha (Williams) Jenkins. He graduated from Southwest Missouri State University (SMSU) in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in administrative management. On January 28, 1986, Dennis married Kathryn Mary Finley in Lamar, Missouri.

Dennis (aka Pinky) spent most of his life in the Lamar area. As a kid, he would hang out at Ihm’s garage and pester Larry while he worked on souped up cars, that started his long romance with cars and motorcycles and acceleration. He pulled a push mower behind his bike and mowed lawns to earn money to buy his first ‘57 Chevy, or, as his mother called it, “that red car”. He worked as a mechanic until he tried management with Wal-Mart which required moving a lot and longer hours than a 20-something kid wanted. He returned to mechanicing. He didn't’t have a bank account until he was married. If he borrowed from anyone, first money on pay day would be to the loan. Then rent, then beer.

Later, he and Kathy moved to Ozark, Missouri, where they started their family and Dennis went to college. In 1991, they returned to Lamar to care for family and raise their children and Dennis worked for Thorco for several years.

Dennis enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies, including fishing, shooting, and golf. He was a skilled and creative cook, and he rarely made the same dish twice. He loved listening to loud rock and roll, and enjoyed a good cigar, an old fashioned and a good dog. He had a passion for fast cars and motorcycles and was always able to make people laugh. Dennis appreciated time with family and friends and especially enjoyed surprise visits from company, particularly pretty girls.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Jenkins; son, Nicholas (Marina) Jenkins of Fulton, Missouri; daughter, Alison Jenkins of Lamar; and brothers, Darryl (Dorothy) Jenkins of Lockwood, Missouri, and Dwane (Mary) Jenkins of Neosho, Missouri.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel Jenkins; and sister and brother-in-law, Shirlene (Jenkins) Kleeman and John Kleeman.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to AOK (About Our Kids) in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be shared at www.dfhlamar.com.

Claudia Schnelle

(From Lockwood Funeral Chapel)

Claudia Jean Schnelle, of Lockwood, MO, departed this life on Thursday, October 30, 2025, in the Good Shepherd Community Care and Rehabilitation Facility at the age of 89.

She was born to Hayden and Virgie Davis in Sidney, Arkansas, on January 2, 1936. She became a Christian at an early age, attending the local Baptist Church, and was baptized in a local creek. She grew up on the farm, hoeing cotton in the spring, attending school in the summer, and picking cotton in the fall. She graduated from high school at the age of 16. Her daddy sold the farm, and they relocated to Batesville, AR, where she worked at a shoe factory from the age of 16 to 19.

She married Ken Hall, and to this union three sons were born, Kenneth Gregory, Roger Mark, and Charles Keith. A car accident tragically claimed her husband's life and left Jean and her children with many broken bones and a broken heart. She was later introduced to Harold Schnelle by one of his daughters. When they began to date, they usually had 4 or 5 kids tagging along. They were married and came home to 8 kids. Heartbreak struck once again as they mourned the loss of son, Alan. But the following year, Harold and Jean welcomed a child of their own, Dwight.

Jean and her sons joined the rest of their blended family in becoming members of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lockwood, where she attended faithfully up until her death.

She learned to do many chores around the farm, her favorite being driving a tractor. But she didn’t like picking up rocks, “yuck”.

Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her the greatest joy, especially getting to watch their many ball games. She proudly rooted from the stands, but never saw the end of a close game.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Earlene, brother LaVerne, her husbands Ken Hall and Harold Schnelle, stepson Alan, son-in-law Steve Mayden, and her brother and sister-in-law Melbert & Doris Schnelle.

Since her children were 6 years apart, she spent many years volunteering with Stapleton School PTO and Book Reading Club. When the kids got older, she went back to work managing a retail service, as she had previous experience in retail apparel sales before starting to raise a family.

Nancy was a faithful member of Forest Park Church for many years and looked forward to serving as a Greeter on Sunday mornings. Her faith remained her foundation through every season of life, guiding her with grace and gratitude. Nancy faced life’s challenges with remarkable strength and courage. She battled hemolytic anemia for more than 20 years, requiring weekly lab visits, yet she never let it dim her spirit or her smile. Through it all, she remained steadfast in her faith and optimism — an inspiration to everyone who knew her.

She cherished the laughter and companionship of her lifelong friends. She truly enjoyed the lunch time ritual with friends at their favorite restaurants, Friday night card games with longtime friends, playing bridge with the girls and neighborhood gatherings for Chiefs, Missouri and Oklahoma State football games while laughing and sharing stories.

Before her travel was restricted due to health concerns she enjoyed traveling to the beach and visiting friends who lived in different cities.

Although Nancy did not play golf, she loved the Golf Channel and you could count on her cheering on her favorite US golfers from Thursday through Sunday. The NCIS shows were her favorite, she loved trying to solve the mysteries. She loved music (especially country) and faithfully watched the reality music programs.

Nancy was known for her boundless care and generosity. Shopping for that perfect gift for family and friends was her passion and she never let the pain stop her from those regular shopping adventures hunting for top brand bargains at her favorite store to earn that Kohl’s cash. She was very successful and would come home, lugging multiple sacks and showing John the great bargains she found. She loved seeing the surprise and enjoyment on the faces of her most treasured relationships.

She is survived by her husband John, her son Jason Glahn and wife Anastasia of Columbia MO, daughter Allison and husband Bert Hardin of Springdale AR, grandchildren Jonathan and Alexandria, sister Carol Leamon, brother Bill Cosby and sister-in-law’s Heather Cosby and Carol Meisterling, and brother-in law David Glahn.

She was preceded in death by her parents Dr. Glenn and Ruth Cosby, brother Wendelle Cosby and father and mother-in-law John and June Glahn and sister-in-law Vicki Hulet.

Nancy’s love, laughter, and faith touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her joyful spirit will live on through her husband John, her children Allison and Jason, her cherished grandchildren, her many friends, and all the lives she brightened along the way. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. She would tell us don’t be sad, celebrate my journey to eternal life in a new home with Jesus our Lord and Savior.

Services will be held at 10:00am on Monday, November 3, 2025 at Forest Park Baptist Church in Joplin with Pastor John Swadley providing words of comfort. A visitation will be held from 2:00 – 4:00pm on Sunday, November 2, 2025 at Mason-Woodard Mortuary in Joplin.
