(From Parker Mortuary)Vivian June Moore (93), recently of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, passed peacefully into heaven at her home following an extended illness. Vivian was born June 28, 1932 near Mountain View, Texas County, Missouri to the late Cecil W. and Ethel Hailey.
Vivian graduated from Summersville High School in Summersville, Missouri and furthered her education at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas, receiving her Master of Education with an endorsement in reading. Vivian was a homemaker for many years until becoming an educator with the Carthage R-9 School District where she taught 3rd grade and finished her career as a Reading Specialist.
One of her super powers was in the area of hospitality. She spent most every Sunday feeding numerous friends, family, and people in ministry. Pies were the desert of any given Sunday meal and holiday gathering where you were sure to find a delicious pie of your choice. Following retirement, she volunteered as a van driver for senior citizens at the Joplin Senior Center. She spent many years supporting the Missouri State Teachers Association, being a member of the Red Hat Society, and serving in many areas with her church, Tempe Church of The Nazarene in Tempe, Arizona.
Other than her parents, Vivian is preceded in death by her husband, George T. Moore, being married on August 18, 1950 and passing on October 19, 2004.
Additionally, a son, Warren H. Moore, and three sisters, Sadie Ann Riley, Doris Lee, and Olive Murrell. Vivian is survived by two daughters, Sandra Laird (Tony) of Hastings, Nebraska and George Ann Park (Michael) of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, daughter-in-law Sue Moore Pitts of Webb City, MO; eight grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 20, from 9:00 to 10:30 at Parker Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri with Graveside services at 11:00 at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin, Missouri. An additional memorial service will take place at a later date.
Funeral services are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
