Cecil Leon Harris, age 78, of Lamar, passed away Wednesday evening, May 16, 2018, at his home.
Cecil was born January 15, 1940, at Jasper, Missouri, one of the six children of Jessie and Olive (Hall) Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Zella Ruth Harris and Reta Marie Guthrie; and two brothers, Ronald Eugene and Everett Lee Harris.
After graduating from El Dorado Springs High School, Cecil proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine. He had worked as a forklift driver for O’Sullivan Industries in Lamar for many years. Gifted with an innovative mind and excellent carpentry skills, Cecil could envision new and useful purposes for old things and enjoyed the challenge of inventing new things. His love of nature prompted bird houses and squirrel feeders to be among his building project specialties. An avid outdoorsman, a great weekend for Cecil would include fishing and camping.
Survivors include his son, Ricky Leon (Diana) Harris of Summerville, South Carolina; a granddaughter, Sarah Ann Harris; a brother, Bob (Sandy) Harris, Tulsa, Oklahoma; and a sister-in-law, Betty Harris of Lamar.
Funeral services, including full military honors, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 21st, at Daniel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Round Prairie Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to The Good Samaritan Shop, in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
