Duane Stokes

(From Parker Mortuary)

Alvie Duane Stokes, 82, of Joplin, passed away Monday, March 1, 2021.

Duane was born June 15, 1938 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to the late Alvie Lee Stokes and Mattie Elizabeth (Stricklin) Stokes. He was a graduate of Crooked Oak High School in Midwest City, Oklahoma.

Following high school, Duane attended the University of Central Oklahoma and received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Duane proudly served his country in the Air National Guard. Duane was a business analyst for Dunn & Bradstreet where his career spanned over 32 years, before his retirement in 1993.

Duane was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, target shooting and woodworking. He was a very talented craftsman and took great pride in his work. Duane flew and built model airplanes and was a member of the local Sky Kings RC Club. He was a life member of the Joplin Pistol and Rifle Club.

His greatest love though was being involved, together with his wife June, in the Living History Encampment, focusing on the Revolutionary Period. He built several items that were from that time period, such as furniture and muzzle loading rifles, which were used in the reenactments. He truly lived his life to the absolute fullest and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

On January 26, 1962, Duane was united in marriage to June Bernice Clemons, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Together they shared 59 precious years before his passing. She survives at the home.

In addition to his wife, June, Duane is survived by his son, Neil Stokes and wife, Amy; grandchildren, Ashley Stokes and Aiden Stokes; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Graveside Services will be held Thursday, at 11:00 am at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor Alan McCamey will officiate. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 7:00 pm at the mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Rendezvous and Living History Foundation at NRLHF.org.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Parker Mortuary.
