Walter Hayes

Walter Hayes III, age 84, of Carl Junction, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2022 at his home.

Walter, son of the late Walter E. and Emma (Zulker) Hayes, Jr., was born on January 18, 1938 in Camden, NJ. On May 1, 1960, Walter was united in marriage to the love of his life, Carolyn Ruggles. She preceded him in death on April 2, 2021.









Walter enjoyed all things outdoors, from fishing, hunting and the need for speed on land or water. Following retirement, Carolyn and Walter enjoyed traveling in their RV across the U.S. Traveling was always desired, from family vacations, to spending winters in Florida, to taking international cruises, they enjoyed it all. Walter was part of the Joplin Family Worship Center.

Survivors include his three children, Walter Hayes, IV (Regina), Roy Hayes (Crystal), and Janna Halverson (Dan); eight grandchildren, Brandie (Travis), Walter V (Lindsey), Richard (Amber), Christina (Jose), Kelsey (Christian), Kara, Jasper, and Kyra; nine great-grandchildren; Tyson, Nevin, Jovie, Bree, Will, Kale, Layla, Lincoln, and Logan; his sister, Beth Crossman, (Dwight “Ike”); Aunts, Edie Raught and Norma Fitzgerald; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Hayes.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at 4:00 PM at Parker Mortuary in Joplin. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 3:00 PM on Thursday until service time at the mortuary. Burial will be held at a later date at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
