Carole Veenis

(From Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home)

Carole Joann Veenis, 85, of Parsons, passed away at 10:10 am., Sunday, January 7, 2024, surrounded by love from her family.

Carole was born on December 3, 1938, to Fred and Margorie Rich in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. As a young girl, she grew up and attended grade school in Sioux Falls, but later graduated from high school at Woodrow Wilson High school in Dallas, Texas.

Following high school, Carole married Walter Veenis on March 1, 1957, and they had three children: Steve and Lori both born in Dallas Texas, and Brian born in Parsons. After leaving Dallas for a career opportunity for Walter in Kansas, they lived in Pittsburg and Girard for a few years and ended up moving to Parsons in 1968. Carole was mostly a work at home mom early on, but then she took a job at Broderick’s for 10 years and worked at Flesh Company for over 25 years until her retirement in 2000.

She had enduring friendships with many local ladies socializing, playing bridge, or travelling. She really loved to play bridge either in town or traveling to other nearby towns to expand her abilities, and the trips were her favorites to many locations around the world including places like Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, Portugal, Germany, and the Netherlands.

She participated in the local Pink Lady organization – where they would greet visitors at the hospital with a friendly smile and a warm heart. Her Faith in God was immeasurable and she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 50 years!

Her Survivors include:

Two sons – Steve Veenis and his wife, Shirley, of Santa Fe, New Mexico

Brian Veenis and his wife, Leah, of Joplin Missouri

Six grandchildren - Jennifer Jaramillo, Cole Page, Cheyenne Page, Sierra Veenis, Skyler Veenis, Kaitlyn Miller

Two great-grandchildren – Aria and Cylas Swanson

Two brothers – Freddie Rich of Richardson, Texas, and David Twedell, of Los Angeles, California

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 12, 2024, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, 405 Main St. Parsons, KS.
