Mike Bryan

Michael Howard “Mike” Bryan, age 71, of Scammon, KS passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS after a sudden illness.

Mike was born April 9, 1952 in Pittsburg, KS, to the late Walter Howard Bryan and Margaret Edna (Carmichael) Bryan, and big sister Cindy. Mike grew up in Baxter Springs, playing baseball and football, but mostly fishing as much as possible in any spare time that could be found. He graduated in the Class of 1970 from Baxter Springs High School. Membership was held at the First Christian Church of Baxter Springs.








Mike married Martha Jean McKinzie “Jean”, August 3, 1983 in Miami, Oklahoma. Jean preceded Mike in death on November 7, 2017. He worked for the Jayhawk/Gulf Chemical plant as a boiler fireman and later with Day & Zimmerman from which he retired due to illness.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Bryan, a daughter, Brenda (Proffitt) Postle, and a brother-in-law, Terry Allison.








Survivors include his daughter, Kren Bryan - Baxter Springs, KS (daughter of Kimberly Taylor); sons, Tom Proffitt - Carl Junction, MO, Jack Proffitt, Steve Proffitt - Scammon, KS, Don Proffitt and wife Missy - Columbus, KS; sister Cindy (Bryan) Allison and her late husband, Terry – Bremerton, WA; 12 grandchildren, 5-great grandchildren, 6 nephews, & 2 nieces.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Neil Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Jack Proffitt, Steve Proffitt, Don Proffitt, Austin Proffitt, Boston Proffitt, Landon Proffitt, Mickey Allen, and Scott McKinzie serving as pallbearers. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Tom Proffitt, Cody Proffitt, Logan Proffitt, Jimmy McKinzie, and Doyle Dean Klouse, Jr.

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
