Phyllis Probert

(From Weng Funeral Chapel)

Phyllis Wynona Probert, 92, of Jasper, Mo. passed away peacefully Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Mercy Hospital Joplin. Wynona was born to Walker Hubbard and Ethel Johnson Hubbard on October 20, 1931, in Jasper, Mo. She was a graduate of Jasper High School class of 1949.

After graduation, Wynona worked as a bookkeeper at National Biscuit Company (later called Nabisco) in Carthage. She married Donald Probert on June 26, 1955, in Miami, Oklahoma. They settled in a small house a mile west of Highway 71 on Baseline Road. Soon they moved to a house by Wynona’s parents’ store at Baseline and 71. In 1959 they moved 5 miles east to the farm where they raised their kids and operated a dairy. Wynona lived here the rest of her life — over 64 years.

Wynona worked on the farm helping Don raise their kids, tending a garden and doing lots of canning and freezing. Once the kids were older, she held several jobs — for Jasper County Extension, Knell Roofing, Production Credit Association and Jasper Popcorn until her retirement in 1996. Wynona was a long-time member of Zion Baptist Church near the farm. She served as church clerk and treasurer and was there for Zion’s last service before it was destroyed by a tornado in 2019.

She was preceded in death by her husband Don on November 27, 1991; her parents, and her sisters Irene Lee, Adeline Wagahoff, Lorraine Groom, Madge Wood, Dolores Weeks, Carolyn Kitterman, Delaine Moyer; and her brothers Walter “Dub”, George, and Fred Hubbard.

Wynona is survived by her children Ted (Pam) Mansfield Mo., Ben (Dianna) Jasper Mo., Jean Webster Groves Mo., and Rex Webster Groves, Mo.; grandchildren Kate Probert Smith, Russell Dintaman, and Renea Bobb; and 9 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Hackney Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Hackney Cemetery or the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Weng Funeral Chapel. Online condolences can be made at Weng Funeral Chapel.com.
