(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)
Shirley Mae (Shupp) Ledford passed away peacefully from pneumonia on October 8th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was 82 years old.
Shirley graduated with an associate’s degree from Joplin Community College and embarked on a diverse career, including stints at Carthage Marble, owning a toy store at NorthPark Mall, selling real estate through Charles Shupp Realty, and co-owning a commercial construction company with her husband.
Married on August 28, 1964, to George, Shirley’s life was marked by her dedication to family and her unwavering belief in the dignity of every person. She advocated for kindness and respect, championing the rights of all couples long before it became widely accepted.
Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family. Shirley welcomed her uncle, Henry Chambers, into her home after the loss of his wife, providing care until his passing. She also cared for her mother and George’s mother during their illnesses, reflecting her selflessness and dedication.
Shirley’s legacy of love, compassion, and humor has left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She is survived by her children and grandchildren; Beth (Chad), Ashton and Ryan Eby; Bonnie Ledford, Amanda Nichols and Lauren Terrill; Doug (Christy), Nicholas and Elliott Ledford; Mona (Doug), Olivia and Anna Donnell; and their seven great-grandchildren- Kaiden, Brady, and Jace Nichols; Nathan Terrill; and Carson, Carter, and Hudson James.
Her passing is deeply felt by her family and friends, but her spirit will continue to inspire kindness and acceptance in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Please join us in celebrating her life and the values she cherished. Services to be held at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
