Patty was a devout Christian all her life, and a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Joplin. She enjoyed traveling, crocheting, and spending time with her family and friends. She will be fondly remembered for her love, kindness and warm spirit.

Patty was born in Gary, Indiana, to James and Virginia Watts, although she spent most of her young life in Sioux City, Iowa. Patty married Ronald “Ron” Heagel on August 31, 1974. Together, they shared over 50 years of marriage. Ron and Patty lived outside of Sioux City on an acreage where they raised two sons, a variety of livestock, and tended a big garden every year. In 2007, Ron moved to Wyandotte, Oklahoma onto a large acreage, and Patty joined him in 2009 after retirement. She then came out of retirement to become the Assistant Director of Planning, Development and Neighborhood Services for the City of Joplin, Missouri. She enjoyed working in that position until she retired again in 2022.

Patty is survived by her husband, Ron Heagel; sons, Jeff (Jill) Heagel, Patrick (Autumn Krcil) Heagel; sister, Linda Slate; niece, Virginia (Eric) Sorensen; and nephew Adam Slate. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Virginia Watts.
