LaVera Newman

LaVera Ann Newman, 84, passed away Friday, August 8, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving family. 

She was born on December 31, 1940, to Glen E. and Nellie (Bell) Trowbridge in Powder Town (Carthage), Missouri. LaVera graduated from Carthage High School with the Class of 1958."

After finishing high school, she attended and graduated from Beau Geste School of Cosmetology in Joplin, Missouri on March 20, 1959. 

LaVera was self-employed for sixty-five years. She was also a florist at Cedarview Floral for sixteen years before retiring. LaVera was an avid reader of the Bible and loved attending her church. She also loved flowers and enjoyed crocheting. LaVera was a lifetime Jasper County resident and member of Bible Baptist Church in Carthage, Missouri.

LaVera was united in marriage to Lee E. Newman on February 1, 1967, in Miami, Oklahoma.

LaVera is survived by her six children, Larry Newman of Carthage, Missouri, Leon Newman of Grandview, Missouri, Leann Irvin of El Dorado Springs, Missouri, Jim E. Newman of Columbia, Missouri, Jamie Rector of Jasper, Missouri, and Mary Lou Newman-Teel of Carthage, Missouri; her brother, Ray Trowbridge; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

LaVera is preceded in death by her husband, Lee E. Newman; her parents, Glen E. and Nellie Trowbridge; and three brothers, Richard, Gene, and Lyle Trowbridge.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Bible Baptist Church, 800 S. Baker St., Carthage, Missouri. Burial will be at Park Cemetery in Carthage, Missouri.
