(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Ruth Marie Eden of Joplin, Missouri passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Joplin Gardens at age 98. Ruth was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.
She was a passionate gardner who loved to raise vegetables and fruits as well as flowers. She loved contributing to her community, regularly volunteering at Crosslines and making quilts to donate. She loved to crochet pot holders and blankets and decorate tea towels, gifting her creations to family and friends.
Ruth was born on October 13, 1926, in Neosho, Missouri. A lifetime area resident, Ruth graduated from Neosho High school in 1944. Upon graduation, she began work as a secretary at Fort Crowder before working at the Joplin Globe. She left the workforce in 1951 to raise her two children.
She married William “Bill” Eden on March 20, 1949, in Neosho, Missouri. He preceded her in death on May 8, 2008.
Ruth is survived by son David (Martha) Eden of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; daughter Janet (Geoffrey) Fox of Joplin, Missouri; grandchildren Eric Eden, Kate (Will Dimmit) Fox, and Julianna (Mark Audrain) Fox; and great-grandchildren Miles Fox-Audrain and Eden Fox-Audrain. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Esther (Testerman) Staib; and siblings Roy Staib, Ralph Staib, and Bonnie Phillips.
A Memorial Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the Mason-Woodard Chapel.
Memorial Services for Ruth will be held at Fellowship Baptist Church in Joplin, Missouri, where she regularly attended. Services will begin at 10:00 am Friday, August 8, 2025 with Rev. Rex Wakefield officiating.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Crosslines in care of Mason-Woodard.
