John Henry “J.H.” Phipps, age 77, passed away Friday October 19th, at the Cox Barton County Hospital.
J.H. was born in Sheldon, MO, July 21st, 1941, to Woodrow and Madelene (Jones) Phipps. He attended Lamar High School and graduated with the class of 1959. 58 years ago, October 2, 1960, he married Peggy Jones. J.H. was a farmer. He was a member of the Barton County Farm Bureau for 50 years and the president of the Farm Bureau Board for 25 years. He was a board member of the Beef Council for 6 years and president of the Sheldon Co-op for 6 years. He also sold Cargill Seed for 20 years. He was a member of the Hopewell Church and served as an elder for 45 years.
He is survived by his wife Peggy; 2 daughters, Doris Fast (Rick) and Cindy Kirby (Kyle); 2 sons, Dale Phipps and Rusty Phipps (Sandra); 9 grandchildren, Nicki Walker, Ricky Fast, Tara Scheets, Rustin Phipps, Kelsey Stenger, Levi Phipps, Kendall Short, Riley Phipps and Kennedy Kirby; 12 great grandchildren, Baylee and Blair Walker, Blaine and Vance Breshears, Colton, Allie and Carson Scheets, Addison Ahres, Ryder and Waylin Phipps, Russell Phipps and Carter Short. Also Surviving are two brothes,; Carl and Leon Phipps.
The funeral service will be 10 A.M. Monday at the Konantz Warden Funeral Home in Lamar. Pastor George Haag will officiate. There will be a visitation Sunday from 4 to 6 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Sheldon Cemetery.
