Michael G. Brock, 61, of Mechanicsville, Va., passed away following a long illness on October 11, 2018. He was born November 18, 1956, in Neosho, Mo., to Nelson and Dorothy Becknell Brock. He graduated from East Newton High School in 1974.
Mike worked selling cable TV and then joined the Air Force when he turned 18. He was trained repairing teletype machines and was in the military for four years.
Afterwards he started working for AT&T/NCR and recently worked as a senior systems consultant, running wireless projects all over the world from his home office. He has worked for them for 39 years.
When he was younger, Mike was an avid runner, running countless 10Ks and half marathons and one marathon plus a couple of mini triathlons. He loved coaching his sons in baseball, basketball, and football while they were growing up and loved playing guitar, especially with good friend, John. Mike also enjoyed riding his bicycle long distance and had a green thumb when it came to growing tomatoes and zucchini. Later in life he enjoyed doting on his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Beth Ball Brock; two sons, Aaron (Rachel), Kyle (Jenny); grandsons, Grayson, Reid and Cooper; granddaughters Caitlin and Hazel; father-in-law, Bob Ball (Ann); mother-in-law, Ann Crosby. Also surviving are two brothers, David (Vicki) and Tim; sisters, Shirley Kelly and Cynthia Woodruff (Darrell). He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Lou Ann Brown (Hal) and Cathy Brown (Ron); and brothers-in-law, Jeff Ball and Wes Ball (Lynn); plus numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Michael's wish was to be cremated and there will be a memorial service at a later date.
