Florence Orcutt

Florence A. Orcutt, 94, of Joplin, passed away November 12, 2020.

Florence was born February 8, 1926 in Joplin to the union of the late Leonard and Estalene (Campbell) Voegtle. Florence attended Catholic school and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Missouri Southern, where she was involved in the Arts Department and participated in many art shows displaying her talent in oil paintings. She was also a talented dancer – a skill she enjoyed expressing through her lifetime – and taught dance many years in the 4-State area. 

Florence retired as a teacher after spending over 15 years at St. Mary’s Catholic School, where she led children in early education. A devout Catholic and strong in her faith, Florence was a lifetime member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Joplin and involved in their Altar Society. Her strong faith allowed her to live fearlessly. She was a true friend to many and dearly loved by her family.








Florence married James Orcutt and together they had two children, Leonard and Carol. James preceded her in death in 2005. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Rick Wiseman.

Survivors include her two children, Leonard Orcutt and Carol Wiseman, both of Joplin; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 19, 2020, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. J. Friedel officiating. Burial of ashes will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
