Dorthy Thomas

Dorthy Mae Thomas, age 93 went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 14, 2021, at The Communities of Wildwood in Joplin, MO.

She was born on September 8, 1928 in Huntington, Arkansas to A.C. and Hester Harris. She graduated from Evening Shade, Arkansas High School. While growing up in Evening Shade she met the love of her life, Monroe Glen Thomas. She and Glen were married on January 26, 1948 in Vancouver, Washington and were married for over 50 years.








During her life with Glen, they traveled the world with his military career and Dorthy loved to move and meet new people. She made the most of wherever they were stationed. When Glen retired, they made their home in Springfield, MO where she lived most of her life.

Dorthy spent most of her life taking care of her family. She was a wonderful Christian Mother and wife and made her home a warm and inviting place. After her children were raised, she began a banking career at Boatman’s National Bank in Springfield.

She was a member of Glenstone Baptist Church for over 50 years. She loved her church and loved to serve Jesus. She was a warm, caring person and everyone was welcome in her home and at her table. She was an excellent cook and loved to entertain people. Countless people have shared a meal with her in her home. She had a wonderful sense of humor and always made things fun.

Dorthy was preceded in death by her parents, A.C. and Hester Harris, five brothers, Harlan Harris, William Harris, Keith Harris, Cecil Harris, and Kenneth Harris, and one daughter-in-law, Jeanie Thomas.
She is survived by one son, Michael Thomas, Columbia, IL, one daughter, Glenda (Russell) Burr, Webb City, MO, four grandchildren, Jordan (Amber) Thomas, Ashton (Taylor) Hannon, Samuel (Sierra) Thomas, Andrew Burr, and three great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Noah and Graham.
The family would like to thank all her friends that provided transportation and looked after her as well as her caregivers.
Funeral service will be Friday, December 17, 2021, 9:30am at Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Interment will be in Missouri Veterans Cemetery at 11:00am.
