Jeremy Mather

(From Weng Funeral Chapel)

Jeremy Michael Mather, 49, was born on June 11, 1974 in Fairfax, Missouri, and returned to his heavenly home on July 5, 2023 after a long illness. His devotion to God and to his family sustained him along his difficult journey.

Jeremy was born to Kenneth Dale Mather and the late Susan Elaine (Wolfe) Mather and spent his early years in Tarkio, Missouri. The family moved to Joplin, Missouri in 1984 and eventually settled in Carthage, Missouri, where he graduated from high school in 1992.

Jeremy furthered his education by studying business and accounting, earning a double major in Economics/Finance and Accounting from MSSU, where he would later achieve a Master’s Degree in Accounting.

Jeremy was always very active in his church and took on leadership roles such as teaching Sunday School classes for high schoolers, serving as a worship leader, and managing computer operations and screens during worship. He truly loved the Lord and tried to show God’s love in everything he did. He was a kind soul, with both a servant’s heart and a quirky sense of humor.

Jeremy was united in marriage with Shan (Flenniken) Mather in 1999 and they raised three sons. He was completely devoted to his family, and selflessly put them first in everything that he did. Even after he was diagnosed with cancer in 2016, he did not worry as much about himself as he did for those who he would eventually leave behind. Jeremy eventually slipped away peacefully at home.

Jeremy was preceded in death by his mother, Susan Elaine Mather. He is survived by his father, Kenneth Mather, of Carthage, Missouri; his brother Brian Mather and wife Leslie, of Sarcoxie, Missouri; his wife, Shan Mather, of Jasper, Missouri; his son Benjamin Brand and wife, Kendra, of Wichita, Kansas; his son Greggory Mather, of Jasper, Missouri; his son Samuel Mather and wife, Rebecca, of Jasper, Missouri, their sweet daughter Winter Jane Mather, the apple of his eye, and many other extended family.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Weng Funeral Chapel at 605 S Main Street in Jasper, Missouri. A memorial service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 527 E. 13th St, Carthage, MO at 2:00 pm Sunday, July 9, 2023, with Pastor Roy Teed officiating. There will be no graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation to the Gideons International or to the American Cancer Society.
