John Smith

Carlton Johnnie Smith, was born on August 23, 1933, in Cassville, MO. One of four children to Carl Smith and Ethel (Rhoades) Smith. He passed from this earth holding the hands of his daughters and son while his Pastor softly sang Amazing Grace on July 4, 2023. 

"John" was a Korean War Veteran that loved serving his country. He loved his family and friends extremely, but his greatest love was for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 








Through his pain and hardships, he never ceased praising the Lord. Although he wasn't a Bible Scholar, he knew Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven and he did his best to walk with him daily and was a member of Jesus Name Church On The Hill, Galena, KS

On January 30, 1957 in Miami, OK. "John and Reba (Underhill) Smith were united in marriage. 

" John" is survived by his four children, Jan Purscelley (Galena, KS), Gary Smith (Galena, KS), Carla Dunbar and husband, Tracy (Clearwater, FL) and Tracie Triplett and husband, Sam (Westcliffe, CO). Additionally, he is survived by ten grandchildren, Josh Reed (Maria) (Galena, KS), Jake Reed (Megean) (Galena, KS), Kade Dunbar (Angie) (Andale, KS), Aaron Dunbar (Whitney) (Blue Springs, MO), MacKenzie Gavin (Sam) (Pinnellas Park, FL), Callie Smith (Joplin, MO), Shelby Smith (Harrisonville, MO), Abby Lake (St. Louis, MO), Derek Barnes (Baxter Springs, KS) and Gavin Triplett (Westcliffe, CO). 20 great-grandchildren. 








"John" was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Reba, two brothers Lloyd Haynes and Raymond Smith and a sister Leota Johnson.

Funeral Services will be held at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel. Pastor Wes Woodcock will officiate. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery (Columbus, KS). Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive Visitors prior to funeral services on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. and burial at Greenlawn Cemetery (Columbus, KS).

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt’ s Baxter Chapel.
