Helen Bailey

Helen Arlene Bailey, 95, of Carthage, MO, formerly of Lamar, MO, passed away on Thursday February 29, 2024. 

Helen was born at home in an oil camp town called St. Louis near Gridley, Kansas. She was one of ten children born to Everett and Sophia (Sauder) Elrod. Her father worked in the oil fields until he was saved and called to the ministry of the Gospel. 








The family moved to Lamar when Helen was a freshman in high school. She was a 1946 graduate of Lamar High School. She married Raymond Milton Satterlee on August 11, 1946. They were blessed with three children: Michael Ray, Patricia Anne and Stephen Craig. Raymond passed away January 13, 1987. 

On June 4, 1994, Helen married Orville Raymond Bailey. He also preceded her in death. She was a wife, mother, and homemaker. 

From 1960 until she retired in 1994, she worked for Lamar Schools as a secretary for the High School Principal and later the Superintendent. She was a volunteer E.M.T. with the local ambulance service, a member of the bridge club, and a member of the Business and Professional Women where she was recognized as woman of the year. 

Helen was active in her community but her service for her Savior was what defined her. She worked in her church, serving in many areas including as the pianist for worship services and as church treasurer. She was a member at the Lamar Nazarene Church, and later at Carl Junction and Carthage Nazarene churches. 

She is survived by her youngest son Stephen Craig Satterlee and wife Jan, of Bartlesville, OK; Daughter-in-law Sandra K. Satterlee of Rio Rancho, NM; 8 grandchildren, Dana Michelle Satterlee, Jeffrey Michael Satterlee, Mark Aaron Satterlee, Daniel Scott Satterlee, Stacey Dian Porterfield, Sharolyn Dianne Stallsmith, Patrick Ryan Wallain and Matthew Bryan Wallain; 17 great grandchildren, and 3 great- great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Betty Jane Runion, Ruth Ann Human, and Rachel Elaine Elrod, and many nieces and nephews. 








She is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a son Michael Ray Satterlee, a daughter Patricia Anne Wallain, two grandsons, Jerry David Lane and John Michael Lane, brothers Harvey, Glen, and Howard Elrod, and sisters Erma Misemer, Vera Elrod and Velma Goodrum. 

If you would like to make a donation in lieu of flowers, the family suggests World Missions in care of the Carthage Nazarene Church. 

The family will receive friends on Thursday March 7, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 P.M. at the Carthage Nazarene Church. Her funeral service will be held Friday March 8, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Carthage Nazarene Church. A committal service will follow at Lake Cemetery in Lamar, MO at 2:00 P.M. on Friday March 8, 2024.
