Jimmie Tarrant

(From Clark Funeral Home)

Jimmie Dalton Tarrant, 91, passed away on October 18, 2026, while under hospice care in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born on August 7, 1935, to Giles and Annabelle Tarrant in Vinita, Oklahoma.

Jimmie’s family settled in the small town of Neosho, Missouri. It was there, when he was in ninth grade, that he met Dorothy “Jane” Swift, the person with whom he would share his life.

Jimmie joined the United States Navy in 1953 and married Jane in 1957. He loved serving in the Navy and ultimately made it his career. Jim and Jane spent the following decades traveling the country and the world while raising their three children: James Giles Tarrant, Timothy “Pat” Tarrant, and Regina RoseAnn Lowrie.

Jimmie often said—and everyone agreed—“The smartest thing I ever did was marry Jane.”

In retirement, Jimmie and Jane remained avid travelers, enjoying many trips throughout Europe and cruises in the Mediterranean.

Jimmie was a devoted member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Madisonville, Tennessee, and volunteered at Good Shepherd Food Bank for 20 years.

One of his favorite pastimes was making cappuccino. He especially loved preparing cappuccino and pancakes on Sunday mornings for his beloved friend and priest, Fr. Julius.

Jimmie enjoyed keeping in touch with his many friends through frequent phone calls.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, their three children, and five grandsons.

Jimmie had a unique personality, full of contradictions, but was grounded in his love of family, God, and country. He will always be remembered and deeply missed.

A visitation will be held at Clark Funeral Home in Neosho on November 4, 2026 from 9:00am - 10:00am. A graveside service will follow at Neosho IOOF Cemetery starting at 10:00am.
