(From Parker Mortuary)Mary Church, 94, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on October 17, 2026, in Joplin.
Mary was sassy, outspoken, funny, and fiercely independent. She lived life on her own terms and was never one to keep her opinions to herself.
She would tell you exactly what was on her mind, whether you wanted to hear it or not, and she had a way of making you laugh even when she was giving you a piece of her mind.
Those who knew Mary will remember her spirited personality, her quick wit, and her signature response, "You betcha," especially when someone dared to call her out.
She had a mind of her own, a strong spirit, and a personality that was impossible to forget.
Mary was a survivor of the 2011 Joplin tornado, an experience that reflected the strength, courage, and resilience she carried throughout her life.
Mary loved to dance, and some of the most treasured memories were made at country dances she affectionately called "Hootenanny's."
She especially loved doing the jig, a little piece of her spirited personality that those who knew her will always remember.
Throughout her life, Mary made some wonderful friendships. The friends she met along the way were an important part of her story, sharing laughter, experiences, and memories that became part of a life well lived.
In her final days, the friends and staff at Joplin Gardens were especially kind and compassionate to Mary. They cared for her with warmth, dignity, and genuine affection.
She will be remembered with fondness by all those who had the privilege of knowing her and sharing in her journey.
Born in Joplin on April 12, 1932, Mary was the daughter of the late Amos and Florence (Harris) White.
Throughout her working years, she was employed by Eagle Picher Technologies, Motorola, and CFI Trucking before retiring.
Mary was of the Catholic faith, which remained a part of her life's journey.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Linda Small (Russel), of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren, Jason, Jami (Ashlie), and Robin; and several great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her children, Debby Cowan, Michael Church, and Jimmy Dale Church; one grandson; her parents; and her three brothers, Billy, Jim, and Alvin.
At 94, Mary leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a legacy of independence, laughter, and a spirit entirely her own. She will be remembered for speaking her mind, doing things her way, surviving the Joplin tornado, loving to dance, and being unapologetically herself.
She was one of a kind, and there will never be another quiet like her.
You betcha.
As per Mary's wishes, she will be laid to rest in a private ceremony and services at the Osborne Cemetery
