Nancy Harrell

Nancy Jane Harrel, age 68, of Webb City, Mo. passed away at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2014 at Mercy Hospital Joplin following a sudden illness. 

Nancy was born April 22, 1945 in Joplin, Mo. She grew up in Richards, Iowa and Neosho, Mo. She graduated from Neosho High School and went to Nursing School in St. Louis, Mo. She had lived in Southwest Missouri most of her life. Nancy was a Registered Nurse, and worked at McCune-Brooks Hospital in Carthage for over 20 years, retiring in 2010 as a Nursing Supervisor. She had previously worked at Deaconess Hospital in St. Louis, and Freeman Hospital, St. John’s Hospital, and Oak Hill Hospital in Joplin. Nancy was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Joplin.

 Nancy married Arthur C. Harrel Jr. July 27, 1981 in Miami, Okla. He preceded her in death on August 8, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Mary Gleason. Survivors include a son, Brian Winters, Joplin, and a daughter, Mary Tappana, Webb City, one brother, John C. Gleason and wife Phillis, Colorado Springs, Colo., three grandchildren; Ashley Winters, and Aaron and Allison Tappana, and one great granddaughter, Gabriella Jara. 

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel with Pastor James Schnackenberg officiating. Inurnment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions are requested to the Lupus Foundation of America in care of the Mortuary. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory of Joplin, Mo.
