Helen Idadean Sutherland Woodworth, born in Haleyville, Alabama, April 16, 1933 passed away on November 18, 2015, age 83. She was the oldest of five children and took her responsibility of being the oldest very seriously. Her parents were Eddie and Nettie (White) Sutherland. Many nights were spent on the front porch, with her family members playing guitar and singing gospel music. She loved living in the south.
Helen married Richard Woodworth November 26, 1961 and he was the love of her life. They shared five children and many wonderful years of fun and laughter. Richard preceded her in death in 2010. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Doris Elswick as well as her parents and a baby brother. Her surviving sisters are: Billie Sheets, Joplin, Missouri and Judy Long, Florissant, Missouri. Helen and Richard’s four daughters include: Jeanne Newby and husband Stan, Webb City, Missouri; Gloria Bottom and husband, Tom, Oronogo, Missouri; Sue Hodson, Webb City Missouri; and Cheri Oakes and husband Ken, Fayetteville, Arkansas. Their son, Steven Woodworth and his wife, Melissa, are from Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Helen’s well-loved family consisted of 19 Grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren and one on the way.
Helen was a homemaker and added to that career by selling Tupperware for 18 years. She loved all the Tupperware dealers under her management as if they were family. Helen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and volunteered her time in the church library for 43 years. She served on the Mining Days Committee 22 years, and the Webb City Park Board for 20 years. Helen loved Webb City and all the employees. Christmas time found her distributing homemade candy to them, with an occasional pie to the Park Department. She will be missed.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel with Bishop Bruce Westwood, officiating. Burial will follow in the Carl Junction Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Friday at the Mortuary. Memorial Contributions are requested to the Joplin Humane Society in care of the mortuary.
