Marilyn Howerton Sparlin, age 64, Joplin, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, November 26, 2015 at her residence after an illness.
Marilyn was born January 31, 1951 in Joplin to the late Porter Howerton and Mildred Medlin Howerton and was a lifetime Joplin resident.
She worked as a cook at Randy's Drive In, Carl Junction and at the Joplin and Carl Junction Senior Citizens Centers. She had also worked at the former Elder's Manufacturing and Vogel Manufacturing for several years.
She and her husband were members of Three State Family Boat Club and Journey Church. Marilyn enjoyed spending time with her family and visits to the lake.
She married Don Sparlin on March 3, 1972 in Joplin. He survives at the home.
Additional survivors include a son, Adam Sparlin and his wife, Jamie, Joplin; a sister, Wanda Jackson and her husband, Terry, Carl Junction; a brother, Terry Howerton and his wife, Nicki, Carl Junction; and three grandchildren, Anabelle Engh, Mason Engh and Brylee Marilyn Jean Sparlin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Howerton.
Memorial services are planned for Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at Journey Ministry Center, 4th and McKinley. Matt Derfelt will officiate. The family will receive friends following the services Tuesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carl Junction Senior Citizens Center, in care of Parker Mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
