Jackie Broadwater

Helen Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ Broadwater, age 96, Joplin, passed away at 9:27 a.m. Sunday, January 5, 2020.

Jackie was born July 23, 1923 in Joplin, Missouri to the late Ralph August Taylor and Clarissa Shaw Freeman Taylor.

Jackie graduated from Joplin High School and Joplin Business College. Her first job was as a legal secretary for the firm Russell, Mallet and Wohanks. During World War II, Jackie worked in the office of price administration in Washington, D.C., prior to her enlistment in the Marine Corps. She served her country as a Marine Corporal from September 27, 1943 to November 23, 1945, something which she was very proud of.

Jackie also enjoyed the little things in life. She had a memory that was second to none. One of the things that Jackie was known for was her bright red lipstick. She did not go anywhere without it on. Jackie also had a love for anything Elvis. One of her favorite things to do was seeing Elvis impersonators with her family. She loved her family with all her heart and will be missed by everyone that knew her.

Jackie married Gene Broadwater on October 3, 1947, in Joplin, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 16, 2001.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, William Taylor and Joseph Taylor.








Survivors include her children, Cyndy Broadwater and partner, Rex Tabor, Tampa, Florida, Mike Broadwater and wife, Terri, Joplin, Missouri, Greg Broadwater and wife, Lisa, Webb City, Missouri, Pat Broadwater and wife, Susan, Bedford, New Hampshire; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one great great grandchild.

Funeral services are planned for Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Royal Heights United Methodist Church, Joplin, Missouri with Reverend Gary Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Royal Heights United Methodist Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
