Truman Gazaway

Truman Wayne Gazaway, 75, Liberal, MO went home to be with his personal savior Jesus Christ on Monday, December 28, 2020 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS following an unexpected heart attack. Truman was born February 5, 1945 in Croweburg, KS to Clifford and Frances P. (Portwood) Gazaway.

Truman was raised on a rural Bronaugh, MO farm and attended a one room Glenwood grade school and graduated from Bronaugh High School Class of 1963. 

After high school, he was cordially invited (drafted) to serve in the United States Army, where he was deployed to Vietnam, for two years. After returning from serving his country he married his sweetheart, Margie Coonrod, the love of his life for 54 years, on June 25, 1966 in Garland, KS.








Truman was a founding member of the Main Street Bible Church, which he attended faithfully every week. He was also a member of Liberal Civic Group, and the Liberal VFW Post #2664. He worked at McNally Manufacturing in Pittsburg for 30 years until its closing, then worked for Progressive Products in Pittsburg until his retirement in 2010. Truman loved to hunt, fish and garden, plus he spent countless hours outside.

After being blessed with grandchildren he loved to attend Liberal Bulldog basketball and softball games.

Truman is survived by his wife, Margie, of the home; one son, Brian and Ruth (York) Gazaway, Liberal, MO; one daughter, Lisa McThompson and Lyle, Liberal, MO; four grandchildren that he loved more thank life, Taylor, Lucas, and Mallory Gazaway, and Faith McThompson, all of Liberal; two brothers, Galen and Becky Gazaway, El Dorado Springs, MO, Glen and Judy Gazaway, Nevada; one sisters, Patricia Gazaway, Ft. Scott, KS; one sister-in-law, Kathy Gazaway, Nevada; brothers-in-law, William (Bill) and Joyce Coonrod, and Robert (Bob) and Linda Coonrod; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, three brothers, John William (Bill) Gazaway, Clifford Maynard Gazaway, Francis LeRoy Gazaway; one sister-in-law, Carol Prichett; mother and father-in-law, Jack and Geraldine Coonrod.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Jim Smith officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Large Cemetery, Garland, KS. The family will receive friends from 9-10:00 a.m. prior to the service.
