Terry Askin

(From Benton County Funeral Home)

Teresa (Terry) Lee Askin, 76, of Bentonville, passed away on March 15, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born June 23, 1947, in New Castle, Indiana, the daughter of Henry and Joy Askin.

Terry was a long-haul truck driver for nearly 30 years. She was a pioneer in her field. She loved driving cross country and stopping to visit family and friends as she motored through their city and state.

Early in her career, she was certified to haul over-size flatbed loads and hazardous materials (HazMat). Most notably, she was part of the fleet that hauled missiles for Operation Desert Storm in 1991.

During the summers, she loved taking her son and grandchildren with her on the road so they could experience traveling across the country and visiting landmarks and big cities.

She is survived by her four children, Jennifer McCann (Ryan) of Cedarville, Arkansas; Joy Armstrong of Camden, Arkansas; Catherine Jostad (Eric) of Prairie Grove, Arkansas; Allen Taylor (Mindy) of Farmington, Arkansas; a sister, Pam Muller of Fredericksburg, Virginia; 12 grandchildren, Jessica Childress, Hammond, Louisiana, Chelsea Wells (Austin), Cedarville, Arkansas, Shawna Jones, Fort Smith, Arkansas, Amber Buchanan (Jesse), Texarkana, Arkansas, Pasha Valverde (Nick), Booneville, Arkansas, Todd Jostad (Stephanie), Bella Vista, Arkansas, Ericka Grant, Bentonville, Arkansas, James Reynolds, Neosho, Missouri, Draven Taylor (Samantha), Neosho, Missouri, Graysen Taylor (Hailey), Neosho, Missouri, Nicole Taylor, Joplin, Missouri, Chloe Taylor, Farmington, Arkansas, twenty-three great-grandchildren, a niece, Gayle Del Valle, Fredericksburg, Virginia, a nephew, John Muller, Woodbridge, Virginia, a sister in law Mindy Askin, California and her long time caretaker and best friend, Karen Hallmark, Van Buren, Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Joy Askin, her brother, Hank Askin, her brother-in-law, Lou Muller, and her grandson, Joshua McMath.

Her friends called her Terry, but she was known as Oma to her family.

Oma leaves a legacy of kindness and love. Oma’s warmth and sense of humor were unforgettable. Oma had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and had never met a stranger. Her laughter was contagious, and her sense of humor brought joy to those around her. Family and friends were Oma’s greatest treasures. She cherished every moment spent with them, especially her grandchildren. Oma’s generosity knew no bounds. Oma saw the good in everyone. She went above and beyond to help those in need, giving her time and support even when she had little else to offer.

A Celebration Of Life Service will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 1:00 pm at the Prairie Grove Christian Church 611 Wayne Villines Road, Prairie Grove, Arkansas 72753. Pastor Vance Eubanks will be officiating.
