Michael Ham

(From Simpson Funeral Home)

Michael Gene Ham, known lovingly as Mike to his friends and family, was born on the 10th of January, 1954. He spent his life as an embodiment of reliability, wit, love, and humor, bringing joy and laughter to those around him.

Born in Purcell, Oklahoma, Michael lived an eventful life that saw him settling in Joplin, Missouri for many years. He was a stalwart figure in the trucking and transportation industry, working faithfully for Butterball in Carthage, Missouri until his retirement in 2017.

As a truck driver, his unrelenting dedication and dependability made him a cherished asset to his team. As Albert Einstein rightly said, "Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile," and this was a mantra Michael lived by every day.

A lover of the outdoors, Michael found peace and tranquility in nature, often found fishing or hunting in his free time. His hilarious anecdotes about his escapades in the wild were a source of amusement for all who knew him. He was not just a man of great strength and courage, but also a beacon of love. He was a dedicated father and a doting grandfather, always putting his family first. He was a funny, loving man whose wit could light up a room. His laughter was infectious, spreading joy and warmth to those around him. As Mark Twain once said, "The secret of success is making your vocation your vacation," and this was certainly true for Michael. He loved what he did and did what he loved.

Michael is survived by his loving children, Jeremiah Ham, Rachel (Joe) Shockley; grandkids, Gabe Shockley and Cody (Kenzee) Mayfield; great granddaughter Ellie Mayfield and a special friend Kim Drake; sisters Deborah (Gary) Harrison, Jana (Cary) Scheurich and brother Rick (Allison) Ham and several nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Minnie Ham.

His life will be celebrated on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City, Missouri.
