Barbara McPheeters was laid to rest at Grace Episcopal Church, Carthage, MO July 10, 2025. Barb sadly passed on December 20, 2024.
Barbara was born on January 7, 1943, in Bloomington, Ill. to Byron and Muriel Hallam. Her family lived in Illinois before moving to Springfield, Mo and then on to Carthage. She graduated in 1961 as Valedictorian from Carthage High School. She went on to graduate from the University of Arkansas and later earned her master’s degree from Pittsburg State University.
Barbara taught English and Journalism at Carthage Senior High and served as the adviser to the yearbook and newspaper staffs. She was involved in many community and professional organizations in Carthage.
In 2011, she moved to Sun City, AZ to be close to her sister and brother-in-Law, Debbie and Bob Buffington. She enjoyed golfing and once again used her talents in art and computer graphics making posters and signs for many of the charity and social golf tournaments. She was a member of All Saints of the Desert Episcopal Church in Sun City.

She later moved to Tennessee in 2019 to be close to her two sons and their families, Mark and Scott Ralston. She lived with son Mark and family until her passing.
She is survived by brother and sister-in-law, David and Bee Hallam of Clearwater, Fl and Deborah Buffington of Sun City, AZ along with her children. She was preceded in death by her mother and father.
