Phyllis Sanders

(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)

Phyllis E. Sanders (Wagner), age 86, of Carl Junction, Missouri, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.

Phyllis was born September 11, 1938, in Bremer County, Iowa, to Ralph and Martha Wagner.

On July 22, 1956, she married her dearest husband Frederick Alan Sanders, and together they were blessed with four boys.

She was a faithful member for many years of Grace Episcopal Church in Carthage, MO. Many will remember her love of serving others. She greatly enjoyed being involved in Boy Scouts of America, Rainbows for Children, and she also served as secretary of Briarbrook Golf Course. A grandson describes her this way, “Phyllis was a golfer, a seamstress, a bookkeeper, a talented gardener, an unbelievably efficient cook, a spry dancer who kept wearing her partners out right up to the week she went into the hospital, and a card sharp.”

Preceding her in death are her husband, her parents, and a grandson, Collin Sanders.

She is survived by her four sons F. Kevin Sanders and wife Janet of Cedar Falls, IA; Daryl Sanders and wife Andrea of Cedar Falls, IA; Kendal Sanders and wife Tracy of Windsor, CO; and Darin Sanders and wife Sally of Fort Collins, CO; nine grandchildren: Blake, Brandon, Trevor, Lucas, Michael, Ryan and Nathan Sanders, Samantha and Liam Kellogg; and her brothers Gerald and George Wagner.

A memorial service to honor Phyllis has been scheduled for 1:00 pm Friday, August 22 at Mason-Woodard Chapel in Joplin.
