(From Midland Cremation Society)Jerry Allen Hermann, 92, of Diamond peacefully passed away Sep 7, 2025, at home. He was born on Jan 17, 1933, in Springfield, MO to Clifford Allen Howell and Inez Beatrice Hermann, and was adopted by his grandparents, Edward and Ethel Hermann, at a young age. He grew up in the Clear Creek community and went to a one-room school.
In his teenage years he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior and was baptized. Jerry had a beautiful tenor voice and sang in competitions as well as in church.
On Jun 26, 1952, he was married to Sharon Gayle Jones in Springfield, MO where they made their home.
In Nov 1952, at age 19, he was working as a cashier at the Frisco Railroad Restaurant in Springfield when he was drafted into the Army to serve during the Korean War. His basic training was in Ft. Leonard Wood and he later served stateside at Fort Lewis, WA as part of Co C 231at Engineer Battalion where he was an Engineer Supply Specialist. The war ended in July 1953, and he was honorably discharged with a rank of Corporal on June 18, 1954. He was then transferred to the Army Reserve and was honorably discharged from this service on Apr 18, 1961.
For many years Jerry worked as a printing press salesman and service technician, working in the same territory his great-grandfather, John Hermann, had worked as a leather goods salesman for Hermann Saddlery Company. Jerry later worked with his sons - Jeff, Todd and Isaac in concrete construction. Even though it was hard work, he enjoyed being with his sons every day.
On Aug 20, 1982, Jerry married Peggy (Lynch) Houston in Berryville, AR and she survives him.
He is also survived by: sons Jeff Hermann of Seneca, Isaac Hermann (Nicki) of Diamond, Robbie Houston of Huntsville, AR; daughters Gretchen Hermann/Crown (Larry Keefe) of Seneca, Katrina Hermann (Travis Hines) of Diamond, Mandy Houston of Shell Knob; daughter-in-law Tina Hermann of
Joplin; sister, Charlene Trager and brother, Keith Young both of Springfield; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; many nieces and nephews and numerous foster sons and
daughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford Howell and Inez (Hermann) Young; his first wife Sharon (Jones) Royer; son Todd Hermann; sister Carmen Yardley and brother Eddie Kalny.
Jerry will be honored for his service at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery of Ozark, MO, and his final resting place will be at the Diamond Cemetery. I want to personally thank our children for always being there and helping in so many ways - I love all of you dearly. Thank you so much to everyone who has prayed, called, visited and brought food during the past couple of weeks.
