(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)
Sunday, November 26th, 1944 - Sunday, August 31st, 2025
Wanda Faye (Brock) Hughes was born in Wyatt, Missouri, on November 26, 1944, to James L. and Alba E. (Turner) Brock. She joined her beloved husband of 61 years, William W. “Bill” Hughes, in Heaven on August 31, 2025. The two were married on November 22, 1963, in Charleston, Missouri. Bill preceded her in death just over five months earlier.
Wanda was, above all else, a Christ follower, a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud Nana. She and Bill were blessed with four children: William “Bill” Hughes Jr. (Kelly), Brian Hughes, Kimberly DeJarnatt (Hal), and Alicia Hughes-Hirshey (Nick). She was also the cherished grandmother of ten grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Wanda worked for a time at Calvary Baptist Church during her older children’s early teenage years, but when Alicia came along, she lovingly returned to her full-time calling as a stay-at-home mom. She was one of the meekest, kindest souls anyone could hope to meet. Wanda and Bill consistently put their children’s needs before their own — whether that meant home-making clothes or relying on at-home permanents from her dearest friend to stretch the family budget. Their love was evident in every sacrifice made and every quiet act of care.
Her children all agree they were raised by the very best. Wanda leaves behind a legacy of gentle strength, unwavering love, and deep faith. She will be dearly missed, but her spirit lives on in the family she nurtured and the many lives she touched.
She is survived by her four children, ten grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, two brothers, two sisters and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her beloved husband, Wanda was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
Wanda’s care has been entrusted to Mason Woodard Mortuary. A graveside service celebrating her eternal life in Heaven will be on Monday, September 8 at 2:00 pm at Stone Cemetery with her grandson Caleb DeJarnatt officiating.
