Gary Montgomery

Gary Denton Montgomery, age 73, Joplin, passed away at 9:35 a.m. Thursday, February 2, 2017 at his home after a sudden illness.

Gary was born December 13, 1943 in Joplin to the late William Howard Montgomery and Gladys Louise Stockam Montgomery and had lived in Joplin most of his life.

Gary is a member of 1961 Joplin High School graduating class. He worked as a carpenter most of his adult working life. He had also worked for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier and at Leggett and Platt in production.

Gary was a thirteen year veteran of the United States Air Force and served in the Vietnam War.

He is survived by three children, Shannon Montgomery, Joplin, Shawn Montgomery, Neosho, Shane Montgomery, Tulsa; two sisters, Sandy Ferguson and husband, Fred, Mikell Warren and husband, Larry, both of Joplin; and grandchildren, Kyle, Gary and Christian.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Montgomery, in 2009.

Services are planned for Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Scott Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
