Esther ‘Jean’ Hanger was born April 21, 1922 in Linnwood, Kansas, the daughter of James and Bessie (Wright) Garfield. She entered into rest, following a short illness at Medicalodge in Neosho at the age of 94.
moved to the southwest Missouri area in 1952 and she had worked for Smith Brothers Manufacturing in Neosho and Carthage, 1973-1983. She enjoyed birds, flowers, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles and sewing. She was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ and her church family was very important to her.
Jean and Thomas Dale Hanger were married on Nov. 28, 1948 and he preceded her in death in October, 1977. She is survived by one son, Steven Hanger and wife, Terry of Roswell, Georgia; Jan Maldonado and Johnny Holiday of Joplin and Teresa Hanger of Neosho; two granddaughters and one great granddaughter. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by six siblings.
Funeral services for Jean will be held on Monday, April 9, 2017 at 10 am at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Danny Boggs will officiate. Interment will follow in the Neosho IOOF Cemetery and members of the church will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Sunday from 1 to 2 pm at the Clark Funeral Home in Neosho. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Neosho Christian School in Jean’s honor.
