Jay Mitchell

Jay Charles Mitchell, age 57 of Joplin, MO passed away on Friday, November 16, 2018 at Freeman West Hospital.

Jay was born March 6, 1961 in Chicago, Illinois, son of the late Melvin Mitchell and Joanne E. Newsome. He grew up in Chicago before serving in the United States Army. His parents died when he was young, and he spent most of his time with his Aunt, Alderene Roberts whom he loved dearly. He moved to the Joplin area where he worked for Leggett and Platt as a machinist for many years. He remained a huge Cubs, Bears, and Bulls fan. He enjoyed spending time with his daughters and grandsons.

In addition to his parents, Jay was preceded in death by a sister, Renee, and his aunt, Alderene Helen Roberts.

Survivors include his daughters, Brittany Stovall and wife Holly of Springfield, Missouri, Breonna Shockley of Joplin, Missouri; grandchildren, Zadynn Stovall and Julio Lasker; a brother, Eddie Clark; and his closest companion and support, JoJo.

Memorial services will be Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Joe Morris and family officiating.

He will be put to rest next to his aunt Alderene at Oakhill Cemetery in Carthage, Missouri.
