Tom Rhoads

Glenn D. “Tom” Rhoads of Joplin passed away on Sunday, November 1. He was born on April 13, 1928 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Elizabeth and Edmund Rhoads. 

He married Mary Ann Rhoads and they remained together for 66 years until her death in 2014.


Tom worked for Empire District Electric Company for 40 years. He was a gifted man in many ways, considered a master woodworking craftsman, furniture maker and builder. One of the most endearing features that he demonstrated was a willingness to help friends, neighbors and even strangers.








He leaves behind four children: Diane Baker of Overland Park, KS; Mike Rhoads (Kathryn) of Tulsa, OKLA; Mark Rhoads (Terry) of Jefferson City, MO and Jim Rhoads (Sherry) of Grove, OKLA. Also, he leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann, his youngest son, Jack Rhoads (Mary K. Rhoads survives), and 8 brothers. His sister, Ruth Clark survives.

The family will hold a celebration of life event for family and friends in the future. 

Arrangements are under the direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary.
