Ira Toland

Ira Lee Toland Jr., age 72, of Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at National Heath Care in Joplin.

Mr. Toland, son of the late Ira Lee and Freida (England) Toland Sr., was born on November 25, 1948, in Oak Grove, MO. He grew up in Tipton Ford and attended a one room school at Cedar Creek until the 8th grade, finishing his schooling at Neosho High School. 










After high school he enlisted in the United States Army serving his country honorably as a decorated Vietnam Veteran. After returning from the war, Ira went to work for the Kansas City Southern Railroad as a railroad foreman until his health forced his retirement.

Ira was a proud veteran and a life member of the veteran’s organizations of Disabled Veterans of America and the American Legion. He was also a proud Cherokee Nation tribal member. He was an active gourd dancer at the area pow-wows with the Prairie War Horse Club.

Graveside committal of ashes will be held on Friday, August 27, 2021 at 10:00 AM at the Osborne Memorial Cemetery in Joplin with full military honors.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.

  1. I remember Ira from High School. I was in the military too as a United States Navy Chaplain. I am proud to have known Ira and I pray for his family as they experience his loss. God Bless you all!
