Anne Elizabeth Nicolas, age 57, of Webb City, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2019 at her home in Webb City. Anne, daughter of the late Hugh and Alicia (Clark) Nicolas, was born on July 15, 1962 in Parsons, KS. She grew up and graduated from high school in Liberal, KS.
After high school she earned her bachelor’s degree from Missouri Southern State University in Joplin. She later continued her education by attaining her master’s degree in education at Missouri State University in Springfield.
On May 31, 1986 in Eureka Springs, AR, she was united in marriage to David (Lanny) Ackiss. Teaching was her passion, and she spent her career as a high school English and gifted education teacher, retiring in 2015 from the Carl Junction school system. After her retirement she spent time devoted to her family and volunteering with the Lafayette House in Joplin. Aside from her devotion to her family, friends, and students, she loved exercise and travel. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend.
Survivors include her husband, David Ackiss, of Webb City; one daughter, Claire Ackiss, and her husband, Matt Sluder, of St. Louis; three brothers, Chris Nicolas, and his wife, Dot, of Joplin, Philip Nicolas, of Frontenac, KS, and John Nicolas, of Liberal, KS; her best friend, Jennifer (Walker) Thater, of Joplin; and many friends and family.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Monday, January 6, 2020 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary in Joplin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lafayette House of Joplin and may be entrusted to the mortuary.
