(From Parker Mortuary)Joseph Paul Kernel, beloved Husband, Father, and Papa, passed from this life on April 30, 2025 at Mercy Hospital. He was born in Webb City, Mo. on February 17, 1941, to Paul Kernel and Dora Lasiter Kernel, whom have preceded him in death.
Joseph leaves behind his loving wife, Carrie Elizabeth Rago Kernel, whom he married in 2006. Combined, they have five children: Marlena Tackett, Nathaniel Kernel, Joey Kernel, Joshua Cure (preceded in death), and Tabitha Cure. He also leaves behind five grandchildren - Benjamin Tackett, Asher Tackett, Amellia McCarter, Marlee McCarter, Dakota Kernel, his younger brother - Gary Kernel, older sister - Irene Fisher, older sister - Mildred, and Son in Law - Kevin Tackett. Joe also had two beloved fur babies, Daisy Mae (preceded him in death), and Maisie.
Joseph attended Webb City High School and went on to serve as an electrician in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1964 on the U.S.S. Dwight D. Eisenhower Aircraft Carrier. During his service to the Navy, Joe also participated in the sport of boxing. This is where he picked up his nickname Goaty, as his signature move was headbutting his opponent. He continued his career as an electrician working for Vickers and later became a self-employed entrepreneur buying and selling antiques. He also served the bus ministry for Central Christian Center in Joplin, MO.
Joseph most enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, golfing, shopping garage sales, attending auctions, collecting comics, and gardening. He was a dedicated husband and father, always putting his family first.
Joseph, Joe, Mack, Papa, Goaty - we love you, and will miss you so very much. Rest in peace.
