(From Ozark Memorial Park Crematory)Betty Louise Graffius, 73 of Joplin, MO, passed away on January 29, 2026 after a lengthy illness.
Betty was born July 3, 1952 in Murphysboro, IL, the daughter of Ralph Pierson and Ruby Pierson (Johnson). Betty was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many.
Betty graduated in 1970 from International Bible College.
Betty married Gary Graffius on July 10, 1970 at Jesus Name Church in Phoenix, AZ with Dick Smith officiating. Married 55 years, their story was a testament of their love for each other. Their journey began in 1969. While giving Betty a ride home in his mustang one evening, he asked her if she’d like to take a ride on his new ski boat. She didn’t think twice about it. Gary knew instantly she was the one. She was the prettiest girl he’d ever met. One day while watching the airplanes come in, Gary asked Betty “Would you like to get married?” A few boat rides and picnics later the rest is history. You couldn’t have met 2 people more in love than the love they shared. They had 3 children, Gary Jr., Ronald, and Kelly.
Betty spent many years caring for other children in her home as a daycare provider. She was a loving and devoted mom and wife taking care of all the daily household chores without ever complaining.
Betty enjoyed playing Keno at the casinos. She loved to shop, camp, and go on vacations. She explored the lands from the Redwoods in California and as far east as Cooperstown, NY. She also enjoyed going on cruises with the love of her life. Her favorite vacation memory was seeing the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN.
