Homer O'Banion

(From Simpson Funeral Home)

Homer Elijah O'Banion, a beacon of reliability and loyalty, passed away on January 31, 2026. Born in Picher, OK, on July 7, 1946, to the late Margaret O'Banion, Homer spent the majority of his life in Carterville, Missouri, where he was known for his generous spirit and unwavering support of those he loved.

Homer was a dedicated employee at Cardinal Scales in Webb City, Missouri, until his retirement in 2011. His colleagues remember him as a hardworking man who was always ready to lend a hand. Elijah's determination was unmatched, a trait highlighted by his stubborn refusal to take 'no' for an answer. In his free time, he found joy in the quiet solitude of reading and the thrill of discovering hidden treasures while antiquing. As Mark Twain once said, "The secret of success is making your vocation your vacation," and Elijah did just that, turning his love of antiquing into a beloved pastime.

Above all else, Elijah held a special place in his heart for his grandson, Zachary Storey. He is survived by his daughter, Shannon O'Banion, carrying on the legacy of her father's kindness and steadfastness and his granddaughter Sophia Stewart. Homer is preceded in passing by his mother Margaret O'Banion.

Homer's unwavering love for family and friends will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. As Helen Keller so beautifully expressed, "What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us."

Services are under the personal care and direction of Simpson Funeral Home. The family encourages relatives and friends to visit www.simpsonfh.com to share photos and memories of Elijah. Amidst the sorrow, let us remember the joy that Elijah brought into our lives and celebrate a life well-lived.
