Delores Oakes

Delores June (Martin) Oakes, passed away on Thursday August 4 ,2016. She grew up in the Cyclone, MO area and lived most of her adult life in the Joplin area.

Delores was born June 15, 1930 in Eaton, Colorado. On December 19, 1948 she married the love of her life, Emery Oakes, who preceded her in death on May 10, 2007. Together they raised three children who feel blessed to have had such wonderful parents. Throughout their 59 year marriage, Delores and Emery were a team who worked tirelessly to provide a good life for their family and who relished the time they had with each other.

Delores worked for 20 years as a parts inspector at O & F Machine Products in Joplin, MO. She enjoyed taking care of her home, helping Emery build several houses, gardening, fishing on Grand Lake and spending time outdoors. She was an active member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church, volunteering her time to a myriad of church activities.

Survivors include two sons, Jack and wife, Cindy Oakes, Dan and wife, Heidi Oakes and children, Jared, Katelin and Danae; and daughter, Kathy and husband, Jim Bard and children, Jason and wife, Kali Bard and children Kyler, Brek, Jacie and Jase; Rebecca and husband Jeff Shackelford and children Jonathon, Kaden, Ethan, Maddie, Josie and Sofiah, Michael and wife Keri Bard and children Malachi and Corban, and Dyana and husband Caleb Judy. Other survivors include brothers-in-law, Forest Lee Oakes and Dennie and wife, Karen Oakes and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Rosie Martin; parents-in-law, Lester and Leon Oakes; and brothers Elmer and wife Mildred Martin, Phil and wife Beverly Martin, sister Juanita and husband George Wiseman, sisters-in-law Wynona and husband Vernon Lindquist, Mary Oakes and Eutiva Martin.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 8, 2016 at the Oak Grove Baptist Church, with Reverend Johnnie Wilkins officiating. Her grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Forest Lee Oakes and Dennie Oakes. Interment will be in Owsley Union Cemetery, Powell, Missouri.

Contributions may be given to the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home in care of the Mortuary.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory.
