Tom Mitchell

Tommie E. “Tom” Mitchell, age 91, of Fairview, Missouri, passed away Friday, November 20, 2020 at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Missouri

He was born August 13, 1929 in Barry County, Missouri the son of J.C. “Doc” and Sally (Mahurin) Mitchell. 

On December 15, 1947 in Cassville, Missouri he was united in marriage to Mary Taylor, who survives.








Also surviving are three sons, Gene Mitchell and his wife Irvalene of Neosho, Missouri, Danny Mitchell and his wife Pat of Fairview, Missouri and Johnny Mitchell and his wife Chris of Neosho, Missouri; two daughters, Linda Shiveley and her husband Roger of Battlefield, Missouri and Sheila McNabb and her husband John of Wheaton, Missouri; two sisters, Shirley McKinley of Pineville, Missouri and Hilma Hines of Powell, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren with one on the way.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one daughter, Suzie; two sisters, Polly and Hazel and six brothers, Ray, Bill, Keet, Joe, John and Raymond.

Tom grew up and received his education in Butterfield, Missouri. For several years he resided in Kansas where he worked in construction. Around 1961 he moved to Fairview, Missouri and owned and operated a saw mill. He was a hard worker and provided for his family. Many people in the area received their first job working for Tom. Some of his favorite pastimes were restoring Model A cars and tractors and trading parts with people from everywhere.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at McQueen Funeral Home in Wheaton, Missouri. Pastor Paul Wahlert will conduct the services. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Butterfield, Missouri.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday at McQueen Funeral Home in Wheaton.
