Wilma Handshy

Wilma Jean Handshy, 93, of Columbus, KS died Friday, November 27, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO.

She was born May 16, 1927 in Pittsburg, KS the daughter of George and Alice (Rombout) Huston.

Wilma was a graduate from McCune high school, class of 1945.

She married the love of her life, Carl Lloyd Handshy Jr.at the church of Christ in Pittsburg, KS on December 31, 1949.








She worked for the State of Kansas as an Archivist.

Wilma was a loyal 4-H member and volunteered at the fairgrounds every year.

She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and puzzles.

Wilma was a very caring person who loved doing stuff for others. She was always lending a helping hand and welcoming any stray animal into her home. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her husband; Carl Lloyd Handshy of Columbus, KS, one son; Luther (Margo) Handshy of San Diego, CA, five daughters: Carla (Alan) Story of Blue Springs, MO, Coral Haggard of Neosho, MO, Cara (Allen) Moore of Columbus, KS, Colette (David) Humble of Columbus, KS, Cherie (Fritz) Halda of Spring Hill, KS, sister; Betty Cares of Parsons, KS, ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; George and Alice Huston, brother; Jack Huston, sister Eva Huston and one great-grandchild.

A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Friday, December 4, 2020 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus. Condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the church of Christ in Columbus, KS. Services are by Bath-Naylor Funeral Home Columbus.
