(From Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary)Mr. James Gary “Jim” Wilcoxson, 75, of Joplin, Missouri, formerly of Battlefield, Missouri, departed this life on Sunday afternoon, January 17, 2021, in the comfort of his family home.
Jim entered this life on February 22, 1945, in Joplin, Missouri, born to the union of the late James W. and Joyce L. (Parker) Wilcoxson. He was raised in Joplin and was a 1963 graduate of Joplin High School.
In 1965, he moved to Battlefield, Missouri and began employment with Springfield Engineering, a career he loved for nearly forty-five years, retiring as the superintendent of their HVAC division.
He enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with his buddies whether it be hunting, fishing, golfing, tennis or leisure time at the lake. He was also an diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan. Jim was a Veteran of the Missouri National Guard and was “Boots on the Ground” during the Kansas City riots of 1968.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Joyce Wilcoxson and his "Momma", Alice Wilcoxson; a nephew, Jason Brown; and a niece, Kerrie Cano-Cata.
Jimmie is survived by his two sisters, Phyllis Perrie of Webb City and Joyce Brown of Joplin; a niece and nephew, Linda Williams and husband, John, of Joplin and Casey Brown and wife, Rachel of Battlefield; great nieces and nephews, Taylor Mitchell and husband, Bruce, Sunday Walton and husband, Michael, Maycee Rhodes, Skylar Brown and Edie Brown; and four great-great nieces and nephews, Brylee, Gentry, Bryson and Krew.
Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 22, 2021 in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with Rev. Joe Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Casey Brown, Michael Walton, Bruce Mitchell, Bill White, Gordon Batson and Duane Moore. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin.
